More about whether or not you attend the school, I think. If you do attend, who cares?! I've gotten floored with some damn cool 36 year olds who came back to school for a new degree. It's the old guys who come to college parties who haven't seen a lecture hall in 8 years, don't know anyone, and are just looking to chase college tail who creep people out.

So if you aren't enrolled in the college, use this simple equation to determine whether or not you should stay in Friday night:

Subtract the number of years you've been out of school from your age. Then from there, subtract 1 for everyone you're friends with at the party. Subtract 4 if you're friends with the host. Add 4 if you didn't attend the college that the people at the party do. If the number is lower than 20, you're golden.

At my university each year only parties with people in their same year. So Freshmen will only party with other freshmen etc. unless you are female, then you are allowed to party with anybody in your year or older. Partying with people below your year is a definate no, and when you leave university/college you usually either stop partying or go out to clubs with good friends which you made while in college. If you are not in college, but attend the parties, then you can take the average age group of the party and add 5 years, if you are older than that - you should stay away from the college parties.

When it comes to parties, there are no "unwritten" rules. Whatever rules there are are written---on an announcement or an invitation.

To put it another way, if they let you in, you're in.

And frankly, I think the custom described in the above entry should be changed. College students are adults, after all, and adult social life should not be so restricted.

I don't know that it can be said better than 'blairs_smirking_revenge' said it. His math works out for every situation I can think of, too.

I am in complete agreement with the part about 'guys just looking to chase college tail.' So long as it's obvious that you're there for the beer and not the girls, you're fine.

Except for that inevitable 'God, I'm so old' feeling...

I really think that if your more than 5 years older than the majority of the people attending it's time to call it quits.

It doesn't have to do with age, it's about maturity level and the more childish you are the better.
