the trouble hearing things from far away is due to the infection.
fluid gets trapped behind the eardrum and becomes infected which alters your hearing. it also effects the pressure levels within the ear itself.
give the antibiotics about 2-3 days to kick in and start working. the drops will help with the pressure by releasing that trapped fluid.
it is common to feel like you're losing your hearing when you have an infection. take all your meds as prescribed and make sure to make a followup appointment when all of your meds are gone so the dr can make sure the infection has totally cleared up.
if after 3-4 days you don't feel any better-call your dr. you might need to have your antibiotics switched.

This is not a sign that your going deaf,, your ear infection could have came from a numerous of things, like having a cold, sinusitis, Q-tip cleaning, or a finger in your ear. The popping sound, and the loss of hearing maybe built up wax, which needs to be removed, sometimes it feels like something moving around in there, or slushing noise, you might get them ears checked, for wax, build up , and also you can get bugs in your ears also. So if it keeps giving you trouble, see about it,,,, hope this helps you/

Ha ha, I used to have that same problem, I was so scared that I thought I was deaf, but if you have eardrops it should recover in about 3 days, the doctor said that the reason you cant here is because some people use Q-tips to clean there ears, and what that does is push wax further down your ear so that you cant hear thats why you shouldnt stick anything smaller than your elboww down your ear........ If thats your problem............anyways the eardrops and anti-biotics should help!

You will be fine. The temporary feeling is from pressure on the ear drum because you have an infection in the ear.
You are being treated. You will not suffer permanent deafness.

here is an herbal remedy:
get an onion, cut it in half, bake at about 300 degrees till it's HOT
wrap it in a cheesecloth and as soon as you can stand the heat, place it against your ear til it's cool...
do this 2-3 times a day for about 2-3 days and you will feel relief.
onions naturally draw out infection, and I have used this method with success-- smelly but effective!
good luck, and remember to elevate your head while you sleep...

If you do not get better you may have an ear diease. You may want to go back to your doctor, and ask if he can measure your ear pressure. I have an ear diease. My ear feels full along with some headaches, and I get dizzy.
The diease is called ( Meineries Diease ) I know I spelled it wrong, but the doctor should know what I am trying to say.

i'm guessing it may be perforated. while the stress replaced the ear drum bodily. they provide you nasal decongestants and advise which you chew gum. while a doctor prescribes antibiotics, continually take the entire prescriptions. do no longer take it in user-friendly terms till you sense extra effectual. The micro organism will nevertheless be there and could grow to be proof against the antibiotic. then you particularly could have a resistant variety of micro organism. this is how the resistant varieties of tuberculosis shaped.

If your ear drum breaks you can lose hearing as it leaves scarring. You should talk with an ENT (ears, nose & throat) specialist. Good luck
