I've had Ra for almost four years now. He's a St. Bernard mix. We got him a playmate, Wilson, whose an English Bulldog two years ago. These past few days Ra's been fighting with Wilson. Wilsom just rolls on his back, but Ra just continues to bite him until I intervene. I had boarded over the weekend, and Wilson received several bite wounds the first night I was gone. It was also reported to me that Ra charged the kennel door anytime someone would walk by. Ra's a wonderful dog usually. He's never shown any signs of aggression toward me or the household cats. I don't know what to do besides seperate the dogs permanently.

I think it is the kennel trip and thoughts of abandonment. I would get a sitter next time. Also, they will get rough. The older dog is teaching the younger to protect itself, it isn't true attacking or the other dog would be very hurt, beleive me, some damage would be done. Your choice but I wouldn't give up. I assume they are both fixed. I see this as playing and teaching survival skills and also the alpha challenge going on as the younger dog becomes older and possibly giving signals of rivalry....so, unless there is blood being drawn and stitches being ordered I would allow them to play and fight to a certain extent, you need lots of room for the energy these two need right? I wish you luck and pray for the right decision. Maybe some reading on the behaviors will help and getting them out to burn off some steam. One dog is way easier than two. I'd never have two again, I'm too old for that. My babt boy has to wrestle the fat cat. lol

First thing I'de do is to get a vet check-up to make sure Ra isnt ill, or in pain, as this can irritate a dog, and make it aggressive.

get a halti for him. it goes over their nose and gives you control of their head. attach his leash to it and walk him near the dog. if he rushes towards it and you are standing still it will gently pull his head down and he will stop. it will also give him the idea that you are in complete control.
