Does $4.59 for a 5 oz bar seem reasonable? (made with organic olive oil - not the cheap and drying coconut or pal oil) Also, what scents would you be interested in? I am trying to add to a retirement fund, and have a hobby at the same time.
Give me some ideas to toss around, please!!!

being a guy, is 5oz bar the normal size bar of soap? (I use liquid).

being a biz owner, the $4.59 is hard to read, I would do $4.95, easier on the eyes and brain easily registers "less than $5".

scents...simple, soft ones, nothing over powering. being male, basic vanilla works for me.

maybe add some color or swirls of color to the soap for easy design and a nice ribbon or paper slip cover with name. or name imprinted into soap and seal wrapped.

I've always wanted to do a heavy scent candle company. But just never had the time to get it going, so I just make my own for myself. Got sick of buying nice candles to just later realize they are cheap ones in the core with just scent poured on them as a coating.

Since you are using high grade products, I would make that your main advertising item, organic, rich products, high quality, etc.

I've looked at organic toothpaste lately, already swapped over to organic milk, and soap, if I saw it and was reasonable, I'd add it to my list as well, and this comes from a very picky buyer.

It depends on how good the soap actually is. I've spent around 4-5 bucks on a bar of soap before. It does seem a little high, how about 4.25 or 4.50 or even 5.00 what's with the 4.59? I know, why not make it so after tax it's less than 5 bucks? Good Smells: Cucumber and Watermelon or Green Tea.

I imagine you'll be selling this stuff at flea markets and farmer's markets? You'd do better with the following price point:

$6 per bar or 3 for $16

Giving it a higher price makes it seem like a truly special, organic product. Stick to natural colors and mild scents. It's much harder to sell a bright pink watermelon scented soap as organic than it is a sage colored soap that smells like clover.

You may also want to make each bar for something specific - with rose oil for the face, with eucalyptus for cold season, etc.

Make the wrappers gorgeous so people will see the soap as nice gift ideas.

I would not pay that much for a 5 oz bar of soap. That's just me. As for scents, lilac or rose are my favorites.

We have an organic products store in New Zealand called Lush. I understand it is also in a number of other countries...

You would be paying $7-$10 NZD (about $4.70-$6.70 USD) for around 100g (about 3.5oz) and that is very reasonable for us kiwis. You should check out their website http://www.lush.com/
