Some processes in task manager are protected by the operating system, so you wont be able to shut them down.

If you are wanting to stop processes from running on your computer, try this.

1) To begin with click on "start", then "run" and type "msconfig". Press ok. Click on "Startup" tab. Uncheck names of those programs there that you do not need at startup. (These settings are reversible, if you uncheck something and later decide that it is necessary at startup; you can always come back and change the settings again.) Click Apply. Click close. Click on restart to reboot the computer. After reboot system configuration message window appears. Check the box that says "do not display this again", and press ok to close the box. This will keep programs from starting that use up alot of space on the processor and the ram, the first ones to go for me are yahoo messenger, and msn messenger, dont uncheck any of your antivirus or firewall programs, these are programs you want to start with windows........

U can not turn off each and every process in the task manager. some are system critical but still shutdown-able i.e. some instances of svchost, if u end this process system may crash (1 min count down timer to shutdown, it can also be stopped).
if u try to end the SYSTEM process, u will get a ACCESS DENIED error.
msconfig (as mentioned earlier by someone ), does not work on all operating systems. try to use system utilities for this purpose ( tune up utilities, a full fledge system software but a SHAREWARE or u can use CCleaner a small but efficient free ware.)

When u boot up all all the processes are restarted (unless u disable them thru any manner) and ur system runs smoothly.

Can I turn off all processes in task manager, turn pc off, and still boot up?

Let's break this down one by one:

Can I turn off all processes in task manager?

No. You will not be able to shut every process down. In fact, there are system processes that when killed, will force the system to reboot.

Turn pc off?

See above.

Still boot up?

Unless the immediate shutdown corrupts the contents of the hard drive (not too likely), you should be able to boot up. Now then, any processes that you kill that are predominantly memory resident will not save their progress or even worse, become unstable if the system is shut down hard.

NO...you can't...LOL...there's a lot of processes running that are "required" for the operating system to run...so if you shut say svhost off, then your computer will crash...but on reboot it will just start the processes up again providing you don't disable them...LOL
