Be honest. I need to know.

My friends were found dead in their apartment Thursday night. They were married. The authorities have called it a murder suicide.
The families need prayer. I need prayer.

Catholics believe suicide when committed in full knowledge and deliberate consent is a complete turning away from God (a mortal sin) and will send a person to hell.

There are 3 conditions of a mortal sin: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent.

While suicide (or any kind of murder) is always a grave matter, people who commit suicide may not always have full knowledge of what they're doing. Drugs can definitely impair one's thinking, as can other things, such as diseases, intense pain, or anguish.

Therefore, suicide is not automatically treated as a mortal sin.

We are commanded by Christ not to judge others so we leave final judgment to God who alone knows each person's heart.

With love in Christ.

The Bible says very little about suicide and with good reason. Some who do it may not be forgiven and others probably will be forgiven.

Thus God will have to judge each case on its own merits. (Diaglott) In Rev 21:8, " . . . but cowards and faithless ones, and abominable ones, and murderers and fornicators, and sorcerers and idolaters, and all the liars, the portion of them in the lake in that burning with fire and brimstone, which is the death the second.

So did the people who committed suicide do it because they were cowards? If God judges this to be so then perhaps they will not receive a resurrection.

If however, people who are extremely ill and cannot take the extreme pain or such problem related to their case - commit suicide that would seem to be something a merciful and loving God can understand and forgive!

The Apostle Paul can be shown to have committed 'virtual' suicide; so, if he can if the reason warranted it, certainly others can too.

However, it is NOT RECOMMENDED since there is no guarantee that it will be forgiven.

First let me start off by saying that I am terribly sorry for your loss, and hope you and the loved ones find your way through this tragedy.

No, they are not in hell, He had a mental instability, I say "he" because I get the feeling of masculine, and GOD does not punish people who are ill, believe it or not, it was what was supposed to happen, everyone has past lives and when you fulfill your life your spirit goes home where you "write" another journey for another "visit" or life, here on earth, we are sent here to gain more knowledge to bring back to our father, it is a continuous cycle, that is only going to last about 100 more years.

Assuming your friends were believing Christians, I do not think the suicide victim would be damned. Only God knows the true nature of their hearts. With this knowledge God would forgive any sin of the truly repentent except the sin of knowlegeable unbelief--this is the unforgiveable sin.

I am very sorry to hear of this tragedy and the suffering you must be undergoing. I just said a prayer for you asking God to comfort you and help you to make sense of this seemingly senseless act.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I do not believe that a suicide is an automatic ticket to hell. God does not spend people to hell for one decision. The Bible clearly tells us in 1 John 1, that if we walk in the light as he is in the light we have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin. (slightly paraphrased)

Walk in the light means that your lifestyle is centered on Christ and that your lifestyle is headed in the direction of godliness and holiness. As long as you have a repentative heart and attitude in life Jesus' blood is continually purifiing you.

However, it is impossible for any of us to know for sure. IF they were in Christ and walked in the Light they are in heaven with the Father.

I am curious to know more about this situation and am willing to help you through this in anyway that I can. Please EMAIL me.

I dont think that they do because there is only one sin that cannot be forgiven and that is blashpemy of the HOly Spirit which I personally believe means rejecting Christ I think anything can be forgiven even suicide even murder rape ect. But I think what sends you to hell is rejecting Christ.

Death and Hades is the state of death, everyone will be judged and whoevers name is not found written in the book of life will be thrown into the lake of fire in revelation Death and Hades are thrown into the lake of fire along with the souls.

I am so sorry for your loss. I don't believe that anyone who commits suicide goes to hell. Obviously they were suffering enough here, and not in their right mind to begin with. A loving God would have No room in his/her heart to condemn anyone to further suffering.

There is no such thing as hell. Hell is death. That's what Jewish people thought, that's what Jesus as a Jew thought. Hell is propaganda.
I'm sorry for your loss, and I hope in time you can all feel better.
