a simple cake from the grocery store would work- they do amazing jobs! If you want to be creative you can offer cupcakes or cheesecake (both work just fine).

If you are trying to save money i say go with the fake cake- the one that is only real on the top tier and then have grooms cake cut for guests.

If you are looking for flavors- i am pretty pld fashioned. You can just have a marble cake and i will be happy- but some prefer to have it with filling.

If you plan to freeze the top layer for your 1st anniversary, get the top layer as fruitcake, it'll keep much better in the freezer for a year. The rest of it can be your preference.

It's up to you. Its your and the bride's cake so make a cake YOU like and not your guests. But if you want a cake, SPONGE is loooooooooovely!
