If he likes your sister a lot, a kiss on the cheek to you and your mother, even, is quite proper. Body language usually tells whether a kiss would be welcome,
AND, by the way it is PROPER for the lady to offer her hand to shake, not wait for the man to put his hand out. After you have his hand, you are in control about whether there will be any cheek kissing or not.

I wouldn't worry about it, one of my male friends does that, and all the children in my family were raised to greet family (or people who are as close as family) with a kiss on the cheek (if it is an old man and a young girl a kiss on the forehead). I'm not American, but it seems normal, if the kiss goes anywhere near the lips, start to worry.

A kiss or peck on the cheek (and not on the mouth) is hardly sexual.
What are you worried about?
I certainly wouldn`t consider his actions sexual harassment, on the contrary!
It`s quite a compliment that he would want to kiss you on the cheek (but then again I`m European born even though I grew up in Eastern Canada); it means that he doesn`t find you repulsive or hideous and that you do not have any nasty body odor(s) or bad breath.
He may just be a joyous fellow with a warm & affectionate disposition.
Regardless, your sister has found herself a keeper, I think!
Good luck to them!
P.S. Quick question: how did he greet the males in your group?

i dont see nothing wrong and it would be wrong of you to think other wise. it is odd to be honest cause hes american and its not really cultural. but theres nothing wrong. and you shouldn't worry about it. the guy was probably nervous and he wanted to make a good impression. some guys will do that to seem pollite even though they may no have been brought up that way. start worrying if he ever grabs you butt when he says hello. other wise even though thing may be odd in isn't necessarily bad.

He's just a warm person. My sister's husband kissed my boyfriend (now husband) on the cheek when they first met.

It's a little weird, but nothing to worry about. Especially unusual from an american, but maybe he's trying to be more continental? How long has he been dating your sister?

If you are a girl ..then this is fine...if you're a guy then...I'm not so sure...lol.. If this keeps happening then talk to your sister. If he has a sister..maybe he greets her like that.

As long as it wasn't on the lips for a long time, I wouldn't worry too much about it.

Some families are like that though. Where do you live? That might explain his actions. Maybe he's trying follow what he thinks are your customs.
