Why do so many people fail to view the Bible as they view other ancient texts?

Aesop's Fables, made animals interesting to humanity, a perfect choice of moral education.

Other than the Fables are:
The Illiad and Odyssey, Book of the Dead,...

All of them can be literally understood, and nobody has subscribed to them

Because the Bible is the very "breath of God" - no other book can say that. It is Living. It is food and drink for the soul and the only "Book" to carry eternal life within its pages. It is the only authority that will "back satan up" in your life and the only one that you will be judged by in the life to come. The Bible is not just "another" book. It is God's Word.

The voices of the prophets are what you hear in the bible. If you examine any museum, you will find the ancient texts. The Holy Scriptures had been preserved since Moses. Look at any synagogue, and you will see the voices written.

The New Covenant (New Testament), source of Protestantism authority, have examine all the Greek manuscripts known. You can find versions based on Greek texts. Furthermore, if you look, you will see the sources of every version.

The bible is studied as any other ancient text for centuries. If you want ancient non biblical texts, we have many. We have found Homer's Troy and translated the Egyptian Book of the Dead; we are search for Egyptian Book of the Living?

This is what we know: Moses led the Hebrews out of the land of Egypt. He wrote the first five books. He was given God's name. God made a covenant with Israel (Jacob) and his descendants. And to my knowledge, the descendants of Israel have keep their part.

Now we come to Jesus. We have four accounts of his life, death, and resurrection. Christians today hope for eternal life.

Now to you question: Obviously, if you do not believe in revelation documented in the bible, no amount of ancient texts can change that belief. Your beliefs are yours. However, those that do believe will never be satisfied to substitute truth for a lie.

Many of the top legal minds in history have come in favour of believing the resurrection of Jesus to be a truthful account. Such as Sir Lionell Luckhoo. Professor Simon Greenleaf. Wendell R. Byrd,Joseph J. Darlington, Richard F. Duncan, Lord Caldecote. Add to that Sir Robert Anderson, former head of Scotland yard knighted by Quenn Victoria for his utmost skill in exposing the mazes of falsehood, discovering truth and separating it from error. I believe there is abook called leading lawyers look at the resurrection. Not sure who it is by but I woldn't mind trying to obtain a copy. I think the author is Ross Clifford.

If you want to view the Bible as an "ancient text", you're forced to view it as a collection of texts, not just a single document.

It's actually a good idea, and you can learn alot comparing the Bible's writings with others written in similar periods.

Personally, I do. There are other ancient texts that I have read that are much more inspired and enlightening than the Bible.

WD hun, don't think that those things are exclusive to the Bible, the Gnostic Scriptures claim all those same things and more.

It's gotten to the point where some Christians have their egos and their self image tied completely to their religion and the Book they believe completely supports that religion. Therefore, they take any comment or critique of the Bible or Christianity as a direct attack aimed at destroying them personally.

It's sad, but it is true.

I believe the Bible with every subatomic particle that comprises my flesh. There is not a word of it that I don't believe. Those others you cite are interesting fiction, including the Book of the Dead, which I have not read but would if I could read hieroglyphics, for the heck of it.
