if she makes you feel bad about yourself and your life (long long story)

Also, would you keep her relationship distant with your children if she undermines you as a person and mother?

No matter how she fusses and how hurt she is because you finally give up realizing you can't work it out with her becasue of her personal beliefs?

I did that. It was very hard. Both she and I were civil for the sake of my children, and our relationship took many years to improve although it is still distant. I would not recommend it as a strategy, if you can possibly think of some other remedy, but sometimes it is all you can do.

If your mom is addicted to drugs or achol or something vile like that than keep your kids away from her and get her help.

If you do not like her or get along with her or do not agree with her than do not deprive your kids of their grandmother.

Kids are very impresonable. They will see how you and your mom behave and it will effect them. Just be the better person, allow her to be that way. Do it for your kids, do not deprive them of anything especially love and family relationships. Since now you are on your own, you have your own house it won't effect you in a big way. You have your own home.

And it is good in todays' society to have the grandparents present in kids life. They see things and keep an extra eye on them. They are very wise. It will be more benfical to you than her. And also God will be proud of you. 90% of a child's brain developes the the first 6-7 years of life, the rest 10% 18 to 25.

Yes. But then again I have that very distant relationship your speaking about with my mother and her mother. For some of the reasons you talk about and others. I have to keep her at arms length or I would loose my mind.

If ANYONE makes you feel bad about yourself and constantly talks down to you, hen I think it is justified to keep your distance.

Especially since you have children involved. You do not want them around that kind of negativity - or that kind of interruption in your consistancy!

I'm someone who doesn't enjoy talking to my mother. At all. Some mothers are just not...motherly. It happens, don't worry. If you feel that you should be distant, then hell. Be!

I would try to talk to her and tell her how you feel when she does all that to you, and if she does not listen just tell her that you won't be coming over, and she won't see her grandchildren until she can treat you with respect. good luck.
