I know a man who I am interested in and attracted to. I think he feels the same way but I want to test it... someone told me a good way is to accidently, innocently get into his personal space for a brief moment and watch his reaction (like if he pulls away or leans in, etc)..
does anyone have any ideas of how I would go about this next time we are around eachother?

Ask for the time and immediately go close to him and hold his wrist before he can answer. As he turns to also look at his watch, you turn your face towards him...
Important to remove your own watch first. Also helps if he is also wearing a watch.

This is really an innocent but effective way to try and get an idea of where you stand with a guy. You used the term man so I am assuming you are both adults. So I would suggest that the next time you are out socially and say you are with a group of others but you are next to him maybe talking to him then at some point excuse yourself for some reason and lean in towards him as you are slowly walking away and say you will be right back and have your fingertips lightly brush across his chest as you leave . If he smiles and seems to acept it you have your answer. Also while flirting with him or talking with him every so often when you laugh at something he says lean in with your upper body and head into his space and lightly touch his arm with your hand. There are other ways too but these are a couple...Good Luck!

Drop the contents of your purse, but not before you clean it out! Choose some clever little things for him to discover. You'll quickly see if he's a gentleman if he jumps in to help you pick up your things. Then if he hands over your purse, you may get an opportunity to touch his hand or give him a sweet smile, and you can read his reaction. Sounds better than spilling a coffee on him! Even some coins could do the trick!

Drop something in front of him and then come up all slow. You have to do the drop just right, or it will look very contrived.
