Keep in mind the registry holds all the information that makes windows run. It doesnt take but deleting or renaming a single file to render your computer unbootable.....

If you want to make your computer run a bit faster?

2 things.
Adjust your virtual memory.
Click on start, click on my computer. Click properties, now click the "advanced" tab, next to performance is settings, click this button.
Click advanced, next to virtual memory click "change". If you have enough room on your hard drive, check the "custom" setting, and set the minimum to 2000 and the max to 2500, now click "set",click ok to close the window, then apply on the next window and click ok, thats a total of 2 1/2 gigs of virtual memory......

Step 2, stop any unnecessary programs from running at startup, like messenger, or whatever you dont want to start.
Click the start button, click on run, and type msconfig. Click on the "startup" button, and uncheck anything you dont want to run. Just dont uncheck anything that says C:\windows, your looking for programs you installed, C:\programs.......

Alternatively try this online benchmarking program, its free to sign up, and if you dont want to, you can still run the program..its free! It will tell you the overall performance of your pc......and what you can benefit from, and what might be wrong...

Hope this helps you out.....you may want to invest in more ram also....

Microsoft OneCare Live, run “full service scan”
Updates windows, virus and spyware scan, disk cleanup, disk fragmentation (if needed), backs up registry and then cleans registry, and checks for open firewall ports.

Myth - "Registry Cleaners improve performance."

Reality - "A few hundred kilobytes of unused keys and values causes no noticeable performance impact on system operation. Even if the registry was massively bloated there would be little impact on the performance of anything other than exhaustive searches." - Source

Notes - "Registry Cleaners can fix problems associated with traces of applications left behind due to incomplete uninstalls. So it seems that Registry junk is a Windows fact of life and that Registry cleaners will continue to have a place in the anal-sysadmin's tool chest, at least until we're all running .NET applications that store their per-user settings in XML files - and then of course we'll need XML cleaners."

An excellent, and free, program that will do the trick is called Advanced Windows Care Personal. It will do a great job on the registry, as well as a bunch of other fix-it chores. Download it at the below link, install it, and run it periodically. Good luck.

DISCLAIMER = WARNING: Many experts caution/warn against using these/any automatic cleaners. However if you really want to, then here you go: BACK UP YOUR REGISTRY FIRST. Backing up the registry in it's entirety (system state) can be done using the 'Microsoft Backup' feature. Unfortunately, this feature is not installed by default and must be accessed from the XP Disk.
If you do not have the XP Disk, the 'Backup' feature can be downloaded from here:- .
