I am a 19-year-old eco-entrepeneur. Right now I am conducting surveys and creating prototypes of reusable, eco-friendly feminine products. They are larger than most disposable pads (ie. Always and Kotex brand), made of soft cotton, and can be reused for years. I would just like to have your opinion about this product. If you say "Yes," or "No", then why? Thank you.

Someone posted about toxic shock syndrome, which is dangerous. Do you know any more about this?

You should probably be aware that such products are already on the market, and with certain segments of the population they are quite popular. The best-known is probably GladRags, http://www.gladrags.com/. Their stuff is made of organic cotton. I had a girlfriend who had quite heavy flow during her period, but nevertheless used such things. They work okay - you toss them in the wash and they're fine. No worries about toxic shock. You're much more likely to get that from a tampon left in too long, frankly.

You didn't give enough information for me to answer properly.

How are these pads reusable? Do you wash them after every use? How much larger are they? How would you ensure that they would stay safe to use? How would it attach to the undies?

I personally would love some sort of reusable pad! I mean, what a huge part of landfill must feminine hygiene products cause?

Also, seeing as a pad has to be replaced every couple of hours how would you combat the problem of having to carry around a used pad in your handbag till you got home that day?

If you could assure me that it would be safe to use (ie that they were able to be washed clean enough to stop any bacteria or anything harmful growing on them), and answer my other questions satisfactorily, then I would use them almost defiantly!

The idea sounds good. So yes, I would use a reusable pad.

No, because I use the smallest pads I can find due to a light flow, and tight clothes. If they came very small, then I would probably use reusable pads if the price is right.

I would have to say no I wouldn't be interested. I do love our enviroment but I would not want to clean them or the odour they would have. I have done babys cloth diapers in the past for my children with sensitive skin and I enjoyed it. But I remember the stories of my aunts who grew up with having only the option of using cloth, I know they would tell you a big No.

I think people would be squemish about trying to reuse a pad. How are you going to remove the blood and tissue matter between uses? If not, they will reek.

If I was a woman, then no.

It seems unsanitary. It's almost like reusing a baby's diaper.

If it were something that you washed like laundry and reused, it would just seem like an extra pair of underpants or something.

Not saying it's an entirely bad idea, I just dont think a lot of people would buy into it.

No. Think Toxic shock Syndrome. If its used once, it would have bacteria and nutrient. Even if you sterilize it, you would have nutrients where the bacteria would able to feed and multiply faster.
