if you want, include what you use, i've been using suse for a while. Also if you love to hate Microsoft, like i do (although i do sometimes use that too) feel free to comment on that too! So what is it that makes you love it? Is it that fact that it's open source? or do you like it because of tux, the mascot penguin? all answers welcome :)

Linux is such a great operating system, there is no way to compare it with Windows. It would be like comparing a fully built house (Windows) that all there is left to do is furnish and decorate, with no choice what rooms you have or can't have. with the Bricks and mortar (Linux) of the house you can build yourself.
currently using my own build, built of the latest kernel with a KDE desktop.
Microsoft has a number of flaws but the biggest is that they are a business that has to make money and they need to design their products to sell the most copies, which means they can try to dump to much junk in to each Os to cover every ones needs but at the expense of the quality. Last time i ran XP it took me months to alter the registry settings to cut out all the unsafe or resource hogging programs.

Linux is likeable and popular and used because it is a good product. It's not a party-loyalty thing. Also in it's favour are those things that have been mentioned - open source, free, etc. The fact that it is non-proprietorial helps since one is not help to ransom by a big, powerful company interested only in profits. But its main strength is that it is stable, versatile, very powerful and well supported by the Linux community. If it weren't so, it would have died a well-deserved death long ago.

Firstly it depends on what flavour of linux your talking about.. a fairly easy one to start with is linspire 5.0 because it will run from the cd it comes on..we all know about open source and that's a good thing but remember some linux based operating systems are not for the novice... Linspire runs like windows its very stable and CNR is excellent.. go to the forums and read about them before you try them then make your own mind up.. as for some of the answers above, the question was (BEST THINGS ABOUT LINUX) not ear bashing windows based systems..that in my opinion have there good points too..There are many different types of beer and we all have our preference to what we drink like
wise with operating systems, its down to the individual what there preferences are ,we should all respect each others opinions and preferences.. VISTA is great very new so dont knock what you dont know.. A LINUX USER...Contrary to what is written above..linux does have its fair share of viruses and trojans,,not as many but they are still out there..
