I had my wisdom teeth out a few years ago. It really wasn't all that bad. I have been TERRIFIED of needles since I was a little girl and I was not excited about oral surgery.

But I spoke about my fear with my doctor. She prescribed a sedative for the night before and the morning of the operation. I was also given Nitris Oxide (I am sure I didn't spell that correctly) and intravenous anesthesia. I didn't feel a thing expect a very small pinch when the iv went in. Trust me, I was too relaxed to care. She could have told me that she was going to take out the teeth with a ballpeen hammer and a rusty hacksaw and I would have shrugged it off.

The most important thing to do is just stay calm. I know, it's hard, but that's why it's important.

Now, I do remember the operation, or bits if it, but it didn't phase me at all. And look on the bright side, you get to eat pudding and jello for DAYS and no one can say a thing.

I am having this same thing done in 3 weeks. I am lucky enough to have had my friend go to my dentist last week and have it done.. so he recounted the events. They put a regular IV in your arm. He said counting backwards from 100 he made it to like 96.. and jsut couldn't count anymore. He knew the dentist was in the room.. seemed like he was there for only a few minutes.. he doesn't remember the proceedure and while he was out of it..and didn't even know the doctor had taken his tooth out. they did novicane shots to after the anestesia wore off.. he wasn't in alot of pain. He told me it's cake. I think what bothers me most if just the fear of being conscious.. but not really aware of anything.. I've never been put under before.. So I understand where some of your anxiety lies.

I had 2 of my wisdom teeth cut out and 2 pulled out. Honestly, I remember them putting the little clip thing on my finger to check my pulse rate and after that I woke up and I was like when are you going to get started. But, they were already done and I didn't even feel or remember a thing. Good luck! I am sure you will do just fine!

You should not be asleep at all just drowsy. You should not feel one bit of pain other than the IV. You will be alert enough to tell the dentist if you do have pain. Be very careful coming home you may be dizzy.

You can't feel the pain which is lucky, but I'm not sure if they will give you a needle for it. It's quite possible that you could have gas instead. Why not ask them if they have gas for you? Explain about your fear of needles. They should understand.

Please dont be afraid, cos poor dental hygiene can cause major health problems. I expect the dentist will either put you out totally, or maybe give you laughing gas which will really relax you. Good luck.

You won't feel a thing. But you are going to lose your teeth and have other health problems because of your needle phobia. Perhaps hypnosis or therapy could help you.

DON'T go for a total, dentists are NOT experienced with that and have many dead (former) patients that way.
