What is the specific charactristic of a machine center? is it a combination of milling and turning machine?

Mills have a table & you clamp material to them & using cutters machine them to the size & shape you require
lathes have a chuck that rotates so are mainly for producing round objects....eg . bearing shafts ,axles ,etc..

lathes use a center for supporting the free end ( away from the chuck) whilst machining...it stops the part from deflecting from the forces applied by the tool (cutter) ideal for longer thin shafts

Hi. There are many types. a VMC (Vertical Machining Center) is essentially a milling machine. Lathes usually are not used for machining a part that is stationary. Laser machines and Wire EDM can also be types of machining centers.
