Your vet will let you know about any special instructions if you ask. No food or fluids is a good idea generally. Depending on the vet's skill the cat will be somewhat sore and may be more sore from being strapped oj the cat board to keep him from rolling and being hurt than from the surgery. He will probably also be unhappy that he was taken to a place he didn't know and things that he didn't like happened and he was hurt and his person was not there. Generally Toms have less pain and fewer post surgical restrictions than Queens because it is a less extensive surgery. Be gentle with him, discourage him from jumping for a few days, if at all possible keep him in. There may be minor shaving at the surgical site but pretty much nothing that will seriously show.
He may want extra attention and babying or he may be in a leave me me-alone mood. That depends on his purrsonality. Being a Siameese he will probably tell you about it at great length. They are usually "talkers" In a few weeks he will remember less and less of what happened and why especially why. He will forgive you and love you and will do it more quickly if he does not see you putting yourself on a guilt trip about it. Cats are smart and most Siameese seem to be extra smart and adept at "working" their pet humans so if he sees that a certain attitude will get certain responses from you he will use it. On the other hand he may be comforting you again depending on his purrsonality. He will still love you.

Of course he will forgive you :)
Neutering is so much simpler for the boys than spaying is for the girls. Your vet will either shave or pluck the hair from the scrotum and make 2 small incisions to remove the testicles. In most cases suture material isn't even used for the boys. It usually takes longer to anesthetize and prep them (10 minutes) than the actual surgery (2-3 minutes) believe it or not!
Healing time is also much faster and there is minimal pain since there is no muscle or body wall involved, just skin. Male cats are usually back to their normal old selves right after the anesthesia has completely worn off and they have a chance to chill out after leaving the vets office.
Our practice recommends with holding food after midnight the night before surgery, but we do NOT recommend taking away water.
Good luck, you and your boy will both be much happier when he's neutered

As much as we would like to think our pets feel the same as we do about things they don't. So there will be nothing for him to forgive you for. Add to this you are making sure he will have a much healthier longer life by having him neutered. There is some discomfort but not for long most male cats are back to playing like nothing happened by the end of the day. However you can speak to your vet about pain meds if it helps you feel better. There will be a little shaving around the parts to be worked on. Call and speak with the vet about what he/she recomends about food/water. Normally it is non after midnight befor the vist.

Neutering male cats can be done in a very short period of time. It took my vet 10 minutes from open to close on my Siamese Mooshu. The scrotum is usually shaved and you'll be able to see his incisions. It's important to look at that area a few times a day to watch for infection or in case his litter gets stuck to the incision.
Double check with your vet clinic on their surgical rules. Usually the rule is no food after 8 pm, just water and pull the water in the morning. This is done so he does not vomit while he is intubated.
When my cat was neutered, I sent a small sandwich bag of his food for when he was completely recovered from the anesthesia.
Male animals do not have the strong attachment to their genitalia compared to human males. Neo won't hold a grudge against you and should be able to go home the same day.
Thank you for getting your cat neutered and for not adding to the overpopulation!

first, note. He is not be castrated he is being neutered. If he was castrated they would be cutting off his testicles. Neutering does not remove testicles. Secondly, he will be somewhat lethargic for a few days and needs to be to ensure proper recovery. There will be some discomfort during this time but is normal. In approx a week to 10 days he will be back to himself. No food after 7 or 8 pm night before the operation. He can have water.

No food or water after 10PM the night before. No shaved areas. He will be back to normal in 2-3 days and he won't associate you with the operation so don't worry!

No food the night before, since he will be under anesthesia, and yes, he will forgive you. I've heard the pain isn't bad enough to require any pain killers, but I do not know for sure, since I have never been castrated. You could request some for him though.

Did your vet not give y ou instructions? The cat shouldn't have food or water past midnight the night before surgery. No they don't shave anything, and he might be a little sore, but there are no stitches and he will heal really quickly.

we got our first male kitty in feb. we had him neutered on feb 22. there were no shaved areas, did not seem to have pain, and he was very loving and forgiving when we got him back. he was not allowed food or water after midnight before we took to vet. pat him on his head for me, tell him he'll be ok. they usually don't keep them overnight and malachi had no stitches. malachi had to stay over 2 nights because he was also declawed that day. but when they just neuter and senf them home he may be groggy and not walk about too good until the next day when the anesthesia wears off totally

My boys have been Greymalkin, Charlie, Timur the Lame (like the real Tamerlane, he had a bum leg), Phred the Terrorist, Rascal, My Cousin Vinnie, and Gandalf the Grey. Obviously, some of them were not usually called by their full names. I have also known, among others, George, Jeffrey, Bodacious, Max, Centaur, Tigger, Midnight, Uncle Fruff, Smoky, Demon, and a pair of Siamese siblings called Tick and Tock.
