well how intelligent are you looking here (assuming you mean IQ intelligence) if go far enough on the scale you need to be very independent emotionally because people that smart don't have the social skills that are common to most people. now if you mean smart in the manner of hard working dedicated men you need to show them that you understand when they must work or study, but also push them to have fun these type of men get stuck in the need to get it done gear and often need a woman to say take me to the bar, or park or what ever will remove his mind form work mode long enough for him to relax and recharge. hope this helps :)

Yes to what many have stated already.
Having good looks is a plus, but Its way to easy to see if someone is out for your money or physical being instead of who you are spiritually. Yes, I am more inclined to try dating an attractive women....well, was. Most women I have seen whom are attractive are real bit**es. Not to say all are, but I have started simply being friends with people with absolutely no inclination of dating them before I consider the idea. It repels gold diggers and such who want instant ritch boyfriend.

After I get to know someone, if they have enough in common with me, then I consider dating them, physical appearance aside. And what my personal decision comes down to is how much they have in common with me and how kind they are to people. I generally end friendships with people asap if they go for revenge when someone does something mean to them, people that try to be someone they arent with plastic surgery or through WAY to much makeup I detest also. (ok, some makeup like lipstick and concealer is ok, but when you wouldnt be recognized without makeup.....RED FLAG)

Just be yourself...whatever that may be, and you will find someone who likes you whom you like back.

EDIT: Generally intelligence is NEEDED to even be my friend. its a real turn off when someone doesn't understand me because of my vocabulary. The one thing that realy breaks my heart is seeing people though that are "not smart" whom dont form their own opinions, and simply agree with whatever the guy says. So if someone wants to simply be a housewife, Im not saying they cant, and Im not saying smart guys arent looking for that. But personally, I run the other direction.
There is a difference between a girl with her own opinions and a b**ch....BIG difference. (In my opinion)

My preference is for intelligent men. The mind, especially an intelligent one, is very sexy. I have found that intelligent men look for a woman with curiosity, a keen sense of humor (witty), charm, who can articulate/express herself, and who finds him over the top intriguing . . . intelligent men are somewhat self-centered . . . and love when someone "gets it" or someone who can exchange ideas/thoughts/opinions with. . . stimulating conversation . . . keep current with the news, find out what he likes and research research research, ask questions (they love it), and be sexy. They tend to think of themselves as "better than" so they want the woman they are with to be impressive with good taste. Its a reflection on them. Sexy with brains is the ultimate aphrodisiac.

And of course, a person would avoid things like scars, blemishes etc...

This is where genetics kicks in. Man when looking for a mate would choose the best, as in most physically appealing (eg: peacock feather dance) and least chances of sickness. (this may be a prime reason why ladies avoid flabby guys)
