I have this girl that is 20, she calls me every day, sometimes late at night just to say "Goodnight". Other times we talk for hours. But every time I have asked her to dinner or if she wants to spend some time alone with me, she always answers maybe. We have never gone out on a date or anything like that. This has been going on for several months now. I am 40 and divorced. what is your take on this?

She just wants to be your friend. I was in a similar situation myself. To tell you the truth...it's the age thing. That's what it was with me and I would never tell the guy that. I always looked at him like a dad or something but never wanted to hurt his feelings or loose him as a friend. We did go out to dinner a few times but could never get close to him like that. I was 18 and the guy was 52. Good looking 52 at that...but...not for me. I would keep her at arms length if you know what I mean and stop giving her things....you can't buy love.

one is that she's just wanting to be a friend to you.
the other is that she's a little shy/nervous about things. have you considered seeing if she'll go somewhere not really date-like with you? maybe a less intimate environment etc will help.
