I am the proud "mom" of a female pittbull. Today, we introduced the cutest kitten into our family. Once the kitten saw the dog, she was hissing like crazy. I would hate to get rid of one of my pets, so is there a way to make them friendly?

Hun its pecking order.....let them work it out the cat may seem irritated at first just monitor them, the introduction has been made and your dog is acting cool with it right?? dont worry your kitten will adapt, when I introduced my Kitten isis into the family she HATED my dogs, now she sleeps side by side with my Boxer.. it took a good Month or two before she fully adapted. Its basically patience, as long as your dog is being non aggressive your kitten will ease up....no worries of getting rid of them just wait it out

It depends on the age of the Pit. I had a pit puppy 8 weeks and my roommate had a kitten 1 month. From day one they would play fight all over the house till the pit was tired. The kitten turned out to be the aggressor but my pit still loved him. Not all matches will work out so great but the age of the pit is really important. The younger you introduce it to different elements, the better off it will be.

A good friend of mine tried this about 2 years ago. She tried introducing them slowly and keeping them in seperate rooms with the doors shut. Well the pitbull made a run for the kitten one day and killed it in front of 5 other people. he(the pitbull) was all excited and it was too much for him the only thing on his mind was kitty. They still have the pb but they have older cats now, with claws so they are able to defend themselves if the dog is out of hand. Any animal is dangerous it's in their gene makeup, so just have control over your pup AT ALL TIMES please

How is the dog reacting towards the kitten? Does your dog chase the kitten if it runs? As long as the dog is not aggressive towards the kitten, you have nothing to worry about. The kitten will become more comfortable around the dog in time!

It's up to you to make sure the dog doesn't attack the cat out of instinct.

I wouldn't trust a pitbull or rottwieler or any of those gladiator breeds with a kitten. What's possessed you to get a kitten when you have a pitbull? Are you a moron? Please find another home for that kitty becuase i predict it will die in your care.
