I was going 85 on the freeway and i went right past a police officer...it freaked me out i almost slammed on the breaks. But he didn't stop me...seems strange.

You sound like me. I should have been pulled over twice in the past week and a half or so...i was going 45 in a 25 then 35 in a 25 today....the cop was sitting right there today...and he turned the other way..i was like 'what?" and he just kept going the other day when i was going 45...
maybe the cop wasn't paying attention to you...or perhaps it was outside his limits...ie. a city cop can't get you out of the city limits.
*i was in the city limits..but they did nothing*

First off, does 'right past' mean going in the same direction or opposite direction? What was the posted speed limit? What were the weather conditions? Either way, there could be a number of reasons why he/she didn't stop you. 1. He could have been on the way to a complaint/accident and decided that your speeding didn't justify a stop over the pending complaint. 2. His radar might not have been on or he got a signal inteference. 3. He might have been at the end of his shift and didn't want to be late getting home. 4. You didn't meet his 'cutoff speed' to enforce. Contrary to popular belief, PO's aren't ALWAYS looking to write speeding tickets; they have other duties besides traffic enforcement.

Regardless of the posts on this forum, we do have other things more important than you. We prioritize our calls and respond accordingly. You were probably a little fish.
Or, he could have been going home and not authorized overtime to conduct a stop
Or, he could have been having a bad day and didn't want to put up with you.
Or, maybe he will wait until you decide to "be by yourself and do 100" and then scrape what is left of you off the freeway.
Speed kills. More people are killed in crashes every year than in all other crimes. Pull your head out of your fourth point of contact and grow up.

He could've been listening to his police cb for crimes or 'incidents' that were going on. **I just wanted to caution you that speeding is so incredibly dangerous. One can just think of singer/actress, Brandy, and how tragic that accident was back in December that she is accused of causing (a mother of two was killed) while going 65 mph on a freeway. Just really scary and daunting that lives can change in an instant like that. Please take good care, and be a safe and careful driver :)

He probably was laughing about it, just imagining that you probably crapped in your pants when you noticed him. It's called the fear factor. Seems like you learned your lesson on speeding, see it did work. By the way he doesn't need his radar on to give you a ticket. If he's going 70 and you blow right past him, he can still issue a speeding ticket.

COPS DON'T HAVE QUOTAS. its not legal. could be a number of reasons, might have not been paying attention, en route to a call, or crap like that, just be lucky, thats at least 20 over depending on the speed limit. thats a lot of money to be forking out.

He may have not had his radar running when you went by. He may have been processing another citation he had already written. He may have been working on an investigation or catching a call on the radio. He may have just gone off duty and was finishing up is log. He may have just been on a break. Or maybe you were just to cute to stop. . .

i dont know but one time i passed an unmarked detective car on the freeway doing 90, he hit his buzzer at me (like those cop cars that have buzzers instead of sirens) but he did not pull me over or anything.
one time i decided to see how fast my minivan would go so out on this highway with nobody else around i took it up as fast as i could. the speedometer pinned at about 103 and i guessed i was doing about 110 from timing the odometer.

Either he didn't have his radar on, was taking a break, or just plain wasn't paying attention. Whatever it was, thank your lucky stars, and SLOW DOWN! Nobody needs to get someplace bad enough to die for it!
