I downloaded the ISO for both Kubuntu 6.06 and 6.10, but I can't get either of them to run. Every time I run 6.10, I get the main menu screen and select the option to install/run live but it just takes me to a screen with a blinking cursor and nothing else. When I run 6.06 and select install/run live, it says:

"Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.

"[17179571.916000] ..MP-BIOS bug: 8254 timer not connected to IO-APIC"

Then it just shows the blinking cursor after that.

A user on the Kubuntu forums said that he did something with his BIOS and power settings to fix it, but I don't know how to do that and I'm afraid I'll screw something up. (You can view the forum thread at http://kubuntuforums.net/forums/index.php?topic=6020.0)

Any suggestions?

I have an HP Pavillion A1640n with Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86 GHz, 2 GB RAM, and 250 GB HDD - should be plenty to get Kubuntu running.

Try asking this question at the following links. Also include some of your system's information E.G. Processor/amount of RAM etc.

Note to run KBUNTU you should have a minimum of 256MB of RAM. If you do not try XUBUNTU.
