There are a number of alternatives as suggested above.
I think Listerine markets that burning sensation to make it feel like it;s doing something. the active ingredient of essential oils only has an antibacterial effect of 30 mins anyway.
Your main focus has to be HYGIENE and DIET if you want to prevent further decay. Mouthwash is a supplement, not a realistic form of preventing tooth decay on its own.
Personally, I brush at least 2x a day, floss at night, and after flossing use a chlorhexidine mouthwash like Peridex. This has an antibacterial effect of 12 hours.

Crest makes a rinse that has no alcohol that might be more comfortable. But if you have an issue with cavities you should be using a fluoride rinse like ACT. It is made for people with many fillings or crown work to help prevent. Also there is a prescription tooth paste called Prevident 5000 that works wonderfully. You would need to get a prescription for it from your DDS.

You need to get a non-alcohol mouthwash such as the Crest Pro-Health rinse.
I agree with you on this one, I hate Listerine.

hi there, mouthwash today brandwise are like toothpaste.... they have lots of brands and promise you freshbreath that will last for hours... yes most of them work but you have to choose wisely which one is the most comfortable for you to use.. considering most of the mouthwash have alcohol tried to skip those coz basically if the mouthwash has alot of alcohol content to it.. after you swish it might have a tendency for your mouth to dry.. like pretend your using a isoproppyl alcohol and rub it in your hands it dries fast right... with mouthwash that has alot of alcohol content to it , its almost like the same.. and if your mouth is dry then its not good.. your salivary gland cant produce enough saliva to cleanse out our mouth. (since our own saliva has a natural cleansing agent). i would suggest for you to try the BREATHRx its a blue mouthwash by discus dental, this mouthwash is a very good stuff which most dental offices use. before that company only dispenses that mouthwash to dental offices but now they put it on the market already. me as a dental professional use that and it works pretty good for me. and secondly that crest pro health rinse is good as well too but it doesnt last as like BREATHRx does. well try them both and check to see whats best for you, but definitely those two are good ones since they dont contain alcohol which burns your mouth.. till here hope this piece of info help you.. take care and good luck
