Just wondering. Does their military buildup alarm you? Their military spending is still 1/10 or so of ours. Though they probably lie about their expenditures it would be 1/5 of our budget tops. Their economy is awesome and may surpass us in 2040. But 40 percent of their population wil be seniors by that time, damaging their economic output. They brag about their new plane but we have the F-22 raptor, many levels above the J-10. Also, their military is 2.3 million. Ours is 1.5 million. What are your thoughts?

China is a country with about 1/5 of the world's population. With over a Billion People a military of 2.3 million is rather small. Our military is about 1.5 million people with a population of 300 million people. That is about 1/2 of 1% of our population. If China where to match that, their military woudl be about 5-10 million men strong. The military build up we see in China is a catch up for all the years which they allowed their military no not keep up. If we start to see manpower rise abouve 10 million men, then we have something to worry about. It is still concerning that such a sleeping giant is starting to awaken. China will become the premere military power in the world once it decides it chooses to. The only other nation which has the man power to match China is India. In the next 100 years I think the two major superpowers will become China and India. Eventually I see five major military powers in the world: China, India, USA, Russia and the EU. I tend to suspect that their supremecy will be in that order in time.

They don't let anyone tell them what to do and probably never will .If 9/11 happened over in China the perpetrators would have been dead within a week.So the moral of the story is LET SLEEPING DOGS LIE or DONT GRAB A TIGER BY ITS TAIL.

A lot of people. They could possible be the next superpower. At one point I thought a war between the US and China would eventually happen, but our economies are tied to closely together.

My thoughts are is we are not in a military race with China. Mutual Assured Destruction makes it pointless to speculate about high tech fighter planes. There will be no war with China. Our high tech war materiel is basically aimed at those who it can overwhelm.

How much you spend a year on military build up isnt the concern. The fact that a nation has a nuclear weapon and has the ability to launch it is enough to instill fear so much so that it doesn't really matter(to me anyways) how much money they spend. All it takes is one nuke to destroy millions.

i agree....if china would want to fight for some reason, I would think that other countries would join to talks first because they depend on the economic outputs of other countries
