We have a double yellow headed amazon parrot and he will start yelling at the top of his lungs for no reason and it is very annoying? Why?? The moment I get on the phone or start to talk to someone as they enter the room he starts. It is a loud shrilling scream . He is not hungry or injured or anything !! I saw on tv once recently a same bird on a vidio and it did the same thing!! Can someone shed some light on this. Hubby has had him before we married and said he does this all the time. We say STOP and he keeps on and on !! If we cover the cage and say nite nite..he repeats this and says nite nite birdy to himself in a real low voice and stops yelling.

It is an attention type thing. Basically he is trying to join in to the conversation. If you talk to him more, he may stop doing it quite as much. Never yell STOP, always ask him quietly. If you yell, it turns into a screaming match. Next time, go up to him and say why are you screaming? in a normal voice. He may drop his tone done a notch.
Birds love to scream though. It is not just with the amazon- I know cockatoos and other parrots that just like to scream at the top of their lungs for either attention or just because they feel like it.

Parrots tend to vocalize, most do it in the morning and the evening. Screeching, loudly flapping wings, swinging around. It's a normal natural thing for happy birds. When they do it when you are on the phone etc. It's akin to a young child who always needs you the moment you are paying attention to someone else. When you enter a room, it's his/her way of saying look at me look at me, I'm happy to see you.

lmao... Oh man, I have a Hahn's McCaw who does the same exact thing!! It's his way of getting your attention and welcoming new comers. They're quite smart in the sense that when you're talking on the phone, they know you're talking to another person and they want you to talk to them too. The reason why he screaches when people enter your house is the same reason why a dog barks when vistors come over; it's their way of saying "Hey! Welcome to my house! This is my territory! Pay attention to me!". Despite how hard it is to do, talking to him or paying attention to him when he does this is only making it worse. You're giving him what he wants: attention. I'd suggest trying to spray him with a water bottle, just a couple squirts with the stream/jet setting. Don't say anything, don't scold him, just spray him. Another thing to do is you could cover him up when he screams. Not for a long time but just for five or ten minutes until he stops. He'll get the picture real quick.

What you're doing isn't incorrect sweetie. those animals don't be attentive to what living interior the wild is and that they does not stay to tell the tale interior the wild because of fact they have been tamed and domesticated. I do think of that it somewhat is erroneous for persons who first delivered those animals here from the wild to have captured them and such, yet it extremely is definitely not your fault. I actual have 2 parakeets and that they are tame so they does not stay to tell the tale interior the wild. they don't be attentive to what the wild is. The pets which you have weren't taken from the wild. they're the great great great great grandchildren of animals that have been taken from the wild. Your animals don't be attentive to what the wild is and whilst you're taking sturdy care of them and love them. they are going to be very grateful and chuffed. in case you place them loose, they may be terrified and unhappy....and to be easy, they in all probability does not stay to tell the tale. this is totally nicely to be an animal lover. You did not take any animals from the wild.
