"One if By Land" on Barrow Street is one of the most romantic restaurants in New York. It's in a lovely old carriage house in Greenwich Village. There is live piano music and the restaurant has won a lot of awards

Capsuto Frere on Washington and Watts Street - this place is lovely, the food is excellent and the waitstaff is wonderful. They have great souflees for dessert - perfect to feed each other. They have excellent appetizers - what's more romantic than seafood cake with a lobster and white wine sauce or a lobster napoleon? They have a $35 prix fixe dinner with some good choices.

There are just so many. Lately i have been eating at Capsuto Freres a lot, love the food, service and ambience.
One if by Land, Barrow Street, has always been known as a romantic place.
One of the better places, expensive, but not well known is March, on east 58th street, it can't be beat.
Picholine, on the Westside, 64th or so.
Cafe des Artistes, Westside, CpW, 67th street
please note, none of these restaurants, except Capsuto Freres is inexpensive. Capsuto Freres is inexpensive only by NY standards. The others are top restaurants, mostly 3 star restaurants. You pay for romance

Scalinatella Restaurant. Located on E.61St. and 3rd Ave. Reservations are a must , the food is excellent (southern italian) although a little pricey. Share the pasta dishes - they are very big!
Calculate more or less (with drinks at the bar and a bottle of wine at the table) 120 Dollars per person.

First, I live here in Manhattan and eat out almost every night. I know what I am talking about so ignore those other answers. Jack's Luxury Oyster Bar is the most romantic restaurant I have been to here in the city. Brendan McHale is the head chef and he works almost every night. He is fantastic and the decor is perfect. Go and you will not regret it.

La Grenouille.
Superb cuisine. Note...men must wear jackets. The room is so beautiful. Fresh flowers changed daily.
