I really don't think that politicians should really get involved on when we should go to war or not. i will have to say this that sen john mccain is probably the only one on the senate who should have any say in it. he's been there and understands the consequences. the other republican and democrats don't have a child out there battling the war and even if they did have a child in the military they would do whatever it took to make sure their child never went out there because they don't want to lose a child to war yet it's okay for other families to lose their love ones. they are just selfish.

You are right on the money, too many arm chair generals[politicians] making the decisions. They guys with the boots on the ground and the grass up their A*S*S are the ones that know how to handle the situation. The generals and other military commanders know what to do and where.I agree 100%,thats why vietnam turned out the way it did.Too many politicians wanting to fight the war.

to the most part, you are right, the generals, when asked to do something with specific goals in mind, should be the ones that call the shots on what needs to be done.
but first of all, there needs to be GOALS! and past the "lets remove sadaam from power" there were not any goals, or at least not well concieved ones.
of course before the war, the administration made sure to remove anyone that was ion the military that might have conflicted with their idea of what was needed to win in iraq, hence the Army chief of staffs resignation before the war. (he called for 600k troops and for the Army to assume security immediatly after the invasion, both which the bush administration was strongly against)

I agree, let the generals fight the war like they know how. When politicians get involved things get messy just like they are now and how things got messy in Vietnam. I don't understand why it's done, but it needs to stop. It's like the US doesn't want to do what needs to be done. There was no retaliation for Somalia either. I wish we weren't so concerned about being politically correct.

No, you are not wrong. Congress had its vote & gave approval 3 years ago. Now if they changed their "little minds" they need to have the guts to vote withdrawing their vote & bring home the soldiers. They do not have the right to leave them & blame the President. Both approved the war & both are unwilling to end it now. Congress needs to stop using the military to make political statements against the Republicans. My son as every solider deserves better from Congress.

you cannot have the military out from under the control of the civilian branches of our government...that would be a military dictatorship and our constitution forbids that.....the civilians say where and when to go...the generals say how.....
