I've been currently using the brand CloudStar on my Pomeranians for a while now, and I noticed just a while ago, that the back of the bottle claimed that humans could safely use it as well. If so, would it be okay to use just regular human shampoo on my little 'sisters'?
I do understand that both human and dog shampoos probably contain different ingredients, but would using the former be harmful in any way to my Poms?
It'd be great to find out - I've never really been very fond of the scent of dog shampoos, and it'd be nice, I guess, to have them smell like lilacs instead. ;b Even so though, I wouldn't want to hurt them, especially ignorantly.
Oh, and also, if it's not recommended to do so, would a baby shampoo be more sufficient to the job then?

You can use gentle human shampoos on dogs. Make sure it doesn't contain lots of silicon or alcohols though. There really isn't a big difference.

Some human shampoos have a PH that is not suited for dogs and can dry their skin out, but most baby shampoos can be used on dogs because they are so mild. If you don't like the smell of the dog shampoo you use, there are others that smell good though. Trader Joes carries a lavender-mint dog shampoo that I love, and my sister bought an apple scented dog shampoo from walmart that smells deliciously like real apples.

You would do better to use a horse shampoo or stick with the dog shampoo. We have too much alcohol in our shampoos and terribly drying ingredients, even if it contains aloe or lanolin it doesn't matter when it's dispersed in a heavily alcohol based shampoo. Even when you wash Pigs for show, you apply oil cut with alcohol so you can spray it on and keep it lite. Moisture is the thing. You need to retain moisture. People products tend to dry so that we need "more" products!

Using human shampoos on dogs can cause dry skin and allergic reactions. Dogs often are much more sensitive to the perfumes in human shampoos than we are. Dogs also have different needs pertaining to PH balance. While almost any shampoo (human or pet) will clean your dog's hair, it is best to use shampoos that were especially made and tested for use on dogs.

Depends on the shampoo, you would want to go with a no tears one, so a baby shampoo and conditioner should be fine. Most adult shampoos contain so many horomones and chemicals that it would harm your dog's skin.
There is one you can find in the horse isle (and in some department stores in the shampoo isle) called Mane and Tail. It is in a clear bottle and I think it smells pretty good.

first- baby shampoo is not great for dogs its pH balanced for babies eyes not dog skin
as long as its a high quality shampoo you should not have too much problems with your dog, the fact is that most of the ingredients are the same if you look closely
im a dog groomer and i use dog shampoo on my hair from time to time because i have found some really nice ones out there
but if you want a great shampoo, Espree makes a lavender shampoo that is really wonderful, it is organic ish, and is really elegant smelling and cleans well
good luck

It should be ok to use a human shampoo on a dog. If you're worried about it, try the shampoo in question on yourself first. If it's too harsh for your scalp, it's too harsh for your dogs. If you're really concerned though, I would stick with the dog shampoo.
The major concern with using a human shampoo on a dog is if they ingest it. If you're careful and keep them from eating/drinking the suds, you should be totally in the clear.

No, you should really stick to shampoos that are formulated specifically for dogs. Human shampoos tend to be too drying for dog's skin/coat (different ph levels). There are plenty of nice-smelling, high-end pet shampoos out there; there is even a line of shampoos that is modeled after Paul Mitchell!

If I were you I wouldnt even take the risk. Just use the dog shampoo on the dog and the humans on the human... sorry if I wasnt much help!
Sometimes it is ok to let dogs use human shampoo, but sometimes they have allergic reactions and their hair falls out, sometimes....
baby shampoo would be good than older people's shampoo... its much more delicate and smells nicer!

canines and human beings have diverse skin varieties - human shampoo has a tendency to be too harsh for a canines. in case you dilute the shampoo plenty and in user-friendly terms do it as quickly as, it won't possibly injury. yet familiar use can and often does strip the canines's coat/skin of organic oils (that may consequence in dry skin.)
