A while ago the Star Wars (Not the books or movies) project wasn't successful for protection against Nuclear weapons during the Cold War and I hear President Bush is looking to fund it again. Do you think they will get it right this time? If so how do you think it will affect the world today.

well back in starwars one, reagan pumped money to now days called companies like rathions. but big problem, money is good, but the technology was FUBAR, so they couldnt make satelites that could shoot down intercontinental missiles from Russia, when they made it it only could shoot down 75% of it, but Reagan lost his fame, and Bush sr. came in and trashed the program.

if Bush Jr. starts this i think it will be wast of tax. he actually started the programs, but not calling it the starwars. and i do believe that they are useing laser gun to shoot down flying objects

The original 'Star Wars' program was 50% science and 50% bluff. President Reagan hated nuclear weapons and wanted to force the Soviet Union to the negotiating table.

It worked. Reagan was able to get a treaty that destroyed all intermediate-range missiles and initiate a phased reduction of the nuclear stockpiles of both nations.

The current program is known as 'Son of Star Wars' and is focused on technologies with a high probability of success. In fact parts of it have quietly entered service (National Missile Defense and Naval Missile Defense have been 'on-line' for a couple of years).

Trivia note - during the Iceland summit President Reagan proposed to President Gorbachev the total elimination of nuclear weapons in both nations. This proposal stunned the senior leadership of both nations.
