One of the ten commandments of the Bible is
"Though shall not kill"
Kill refers to killing animals as well, not only humans beings.
Whereas murder refers only to human beings.
The commandment doesn't use the word murder in stead of kill.
You gave very good sites. http://ivu.org, http://christianveg.org
Some excerpts from that.
The Bible states “The righteous man has regard for the life of his beast” (Proverbs 12:10), and Jesus’ central message was one of mercy and compassion. At one point Jesus compared his love for humanity to a hen’s love for her brood (Luke 13:34). Most Christians will agree that cruelty to animals is not just immoral but also unchristian, yet many people go to great lengths to deny the suffering of farmed animals, who are also God’s creatures.

"I require mercy, not sacrifice" (Matthew 9:13 & 12:7)
This is a significant message when we remember that in the context in which this was said meat eating was commonly considered part of these sacrifices. Sacrificial offerings often entailed meat consumption and a strict reading of Leviticus 17: implies that, indeed, all meat consumption necessitated a sacrifice. Also, the noted confrontation of Jesus in the Temple suggests that he was not at all pleased by the desecration of the Temple by the money changers AND by "those who were selling oxen and sheep and pigeons" (John 2:14-15) since these animals were being sold for sacrifice before being eaten.

Animals were put here for the use of humans however we see fit. I don't believe in animal cruelty, but I also don't think that there is anything wrong with eating meat. Religiously, animals are not made in "God's image" and do not have souls. Animals do however feel pain just as humans do, that's why in Islam when you kill an animal for food, you must do it as quickly as possible and humanely so that the animal feels as little pain as possible and doesn't suffer. You have to rememer too that humans are animals too, and we are part of the food chain also. Other animals also eat meat (lions, bears, etc) so you can't honestly believe that eating meat is really wrong. I do understand that you would think animal cruelty is wrong, but there's a big difference in the two.
EDIT: Impossible Princess, just because people are vegetarians doesn't mean that they have to take extra vitamins. You can get all of the vitamins and proteins that you need from vegetables without taking supplements.

The bible even says that animals are for killing & eating. In fact, in the Old Testament, animal sacrifices were done to obtain forgiveness, so give that up. Meat is good. There's nothing better than a double cheeseburger & a nice cold beer. Oh yeah.
We're ominvores. If you choose to be vegan, good for you. That doesn't make you superior to anyone. The only thing it proves is that you like veggie burgers and you take loads of vitamins because you're missing out on food groups. Quit preaching to people and go picket a J. Lo movie or something. Ramming your views down other people's throat is not only disgusting, it's really annoying.

sure Anil ji, you're very, very suitable yet i'm sorry that such truly some Christians do not agree. The Hindu scriptures are a lot a lot older than all others and they state very obviously again and again that no longer in reality do animals have souls yet that the infintesimal eternal soul trasmigrates through many differnet species. that means that as we are now contained in the very fortunate beginning of human beings that've a threat to reason and study about God and the technology of self-popularity, we were no longer in reality once, yet many cases interior animal bodies and we would be again if we preserve animalistic existence in this more suitable human form. we've the threat to imagine about the suffering of different creatures and to coach non-violent non violent existence for our own products. To kill animals without questioning about their soreness is resembling being an animal. it truly is animal expertise and it leads to beginning contained in the animal species for us, the soul, until eventually we reform even as we've the threat.

First of all, God uses the killing of animals as sacrifice in the Old Testament. Does the Bible not say to be sanctified (To become more like God)? Second, God gave us the right to rule over the animals and creatures that roam the Earth.

I love animals but they are not my brothers. God wanted us to enjoy this life and eating is a pleasurable experience. I love having a thick steak smothered in onions and mushrooms. Besides, if we didn't eat some animals, such as deer, they would overpopulate the planet, not have enough vegetation to survive and cause even more car accidents.
May God Bless you.

It may have escaped your notice, but it is currently after the fall, and diets were originally vegetarian, but at some point (either Moses or Noah) God allowed people to eat meat.

There were/are passages listing the animals that were given for food in the old testament if this helps answer your question and as for the next level we shall be transformed, according to my beliefs, and till then only god knows our future needs.
