How can i install a internal hard drive as an external one?

I bought a 200GB internal hard drive but i want it works as an external one. I bought a external hard drive enclosure, however, when i put the internal hard drive in the case and connect it to the computer, the computer cannot detect it as an hard drive and only shows as a USB mass storage device in the universal serial bus controllers. and it just cannot install it as a hard drive.
is it the problem of the hard drive enclosure or what?what should i do??? Thanks so much.

I tried to uninstalled all of the USB devices and reboot my computer. It can detect it as a hard drive this time and show in the disk drive (in the device manager). However, i cannot see it in "My Computer" It still didn't assign a letter for it.
I tried all of my USB spots already. It still come out to be the same.

These type problems are usually caused by the drive not being formatted. Format it on your pc, set it to master on the back, and go for it.

A "USB mass storage device" IS a hard drive. I suspect that it is just not assigning a letter to the drive.

Go into the Control Panel to the System icon
Select the Device Manager
Find the section for the USB devices
Expand it so you can see all the USB devices
Right click and uninstall all of them
Reboot the PC so it will redetect the devices
Attach the USB drive and it should assign it a letter
If you first attach a USB drive to one USB port, and then the next time attach it to another, the ports can become confused and refuse to assign a letter. Deleting all the ports will clear the settings and let it redetect the drive.
