You don't. There is no way to tell on cockatoos/parrots after their first molt. All you can do is guess.

The only real indicator is the colour of the iris. After about 3 years of age (when the cockatoo reaches sexual maturity), the iris turns brown for the female and black for the male. If you've got one who already has this eye colour, then it's your only indication that it is past 3 years of age. Apart from that, you can't tell a 10 year old from a 20 or a 40 year old bird with any degree of accuracy since feather and beak conditions are very dependent on diet and care given to the birds before that..

Read a book about this. There is no way to tell the age of a bird. By observing the scale on the feet, the appearence and layers will give you a rough idea whether it is a old or young bird.

Your vet should be able to give you a decent idea of how old they are. The beak, talons and feather developement are great ways of telling the general age of a bird. It gets harder when they're five years and older but like I said, an avian vet should be able to give you a decent idea of the general age.

if the bird is banded it will say on the band. past that, unless you know the breeder and he/she can tell you, there is no way to know.
