Remember what Obi Wan told Darth Vader: "Only a sith deals in absolutes"

I know that Buddhism doesn't deal in absolutes so does that make it a Jedi religion?

Julian, the force is the star wars is not a single absolute entity, It; as many things in the real universe has both "good" and "bad"(i used quotes cos the terms are relative) sides to it. When the sith use the force they use the dark side of the force whereas the jedi are limited to only the "light side" of the force. the jedi do not
get any power from the dark side.

As for the question, yes i think anyone who deals in absolutes is like but a frog in a well; ignorant. Humans are so diverse and so unique, so how can there be "one right way" for all of them to follow? that concept of "one right path" is very similar to if not identical to the teachings of communists who say "communism should be the world rule". these kinds of logic simply override the personal freedoms and Assumes that we all think and live alike.

Especially so when it comes to religions. For example, a person of the juduo=chriatian-islamic tradition is actually following a religion which has its roots and practices set no a middle eastern society of 2000 years ago. this is evident in many aspects of those 3 religions. so technically a person of that religion takes on many aspects of that society(mostly unknowngly...look at most of the names in the west...they are of middle eastern origin, and not the olden tribal/ancestoral names of the native european ethnicities)

So the point im trying to make is that anyone who says that "my religion/path is the only way and all others lead to hell/wrong" is a supremely ignorant and religocentric person who knows squat about humanity and our individualness. He/she would be so like the sith and their creed.

buddhism, hinduism and taoism(and masy eastern religion+druidism, wiccan, new age) on the other hand do not make such comments and accept that there are many paths and what they teach is but one path out of many

all rivers lead to the ocean

I don't deal in absolutes(plural), just one absolute.

And by the way, if the force was one it would be an absolute. The darkside is not a force, more like the absence of the force. When the planet got blown up in the first trilogy that dude said there was a disturbance in the force, meaning the dark side does just that, try and overthrow the force, which it can't cause the good guys always win in the end, so the force is the absolute force.

Okay, I must now de-dorkulate.

Very few religions do not deal in absolutes. Man's ego needs absolution to feel secure in this world. Buddhism of course denies the existence of the ego, as do the Jedi I presume ;-)

Most western religions deal in absolutes, though some of them -- like Quakers and Unitarians and Reform Jews -- water them down quite a lot. For that matter, no Catholic, Episcopalian, Presbyterian or Lutheran in Gettysburg will look you in the eye and ask if you have accepted Jesus Christ as your personal savior.

Wicca does not deal in absolutes. In fact, its completely open to your interpretation and the only common beliefs are that of "Harm None" and the Wiccan version of karma accompanied with a great love and respect for nature.

Somewhat, but the absolutes themselves are ever evolving.

The only absolute is that Han shot first.

i could say religious individuals because scientists are frequently too pre-thinking fixing issues. I doubt Max Plank became apprehensive about dirty undies even as he became attempting to parent out black-body radiation.
