Ok, so now archeologists "think" they might have found the tomb of Our Christ....let's go beyond that and think of this one...Let's suppose they find enough evidence for DNA testing out of "Joseph's" stone box. And the scientists do the DNA testing and compare to Jesus's remains...and both are a match. Let's suppose that they do the same to Maria's who is supposedly our "Beloved Holy Mary". and both of their's match. Well..you already know the answer to this one. Now I'm a Christian and will always be a Christian..BUT if this tomb proves to be the "Holy Family" and we come to find out that Joseph is the real father of Jesus, what will this do for Christianity? Scarey thought if you ask me. I also believe that if they find evidence that determines this question then I bet that they will not indulge that information. They have kept other scriptures out of the Bible so why wouldn't they keep the results from the public also for this. Your opinion please.

I appreciate all of your answers thus far but please remember...I'm not saying that what they have found is true and accurate. I'm like you.. I want solid facts here. What I'm asking is to look at another scenerio...The Big IF..have an opened mind please. I'm not critizing any one particular answer here, I just want you all to look at a different scenerio. This doesn't mean that I totally believe on the documentary that was shown. I'm saying "what if".

Well, honestly, IF that was ever found and adduced as accurate many "Christians" would not believe it stating that it is made up, etc... I know this because I have spoke with a christian regarding scientific data that the world is older than 6 thousand years.. and you know what he told me?? "Scientists have made that up to prove there is no god". First off, Science relys on imperical data.. data and evidence is not biased. People are, sure.. but evidence is of no faith or denomination. And sure there have been a few scientists in the past with bad feelings toward christians and yes, have tried to say things that were not true in order to rebel against those beliefs. But then i ask you, how many christian leaders have lied to their country (Hitler, G.w. Bush, King James, etc..) in order to stay in control? How many wars have been fought over science, and how many wars have been fought over religion?

As for your statement: They have kept other scriptures out of the Bible so why wouldn't they keep the results from the public also for this.

You, dear, are a smart christian knowing these facts. That is true, and regarding polictics and society as we know it, more than likely they would keep findings to themselves, as they have had to keep the latest found dead sea scrolls to themselves in order to prevent religious breakdown and cult (yes cults) suicides, and government rebellion. What a sad world to live in when a few ignorant people are led by such blind faith that the rest of the world who can handle the truth are not given the opportunity.

As for the jesus being of a mortal man.. well, i do find it odd that out of the thousands of different religions, christianity is the only one that believes jesus was the son of god. I am not even sure why they believe that. Logically, you look at scripture and in the new testament jesus comes along and he did not state he was the son of god, nor did anyone else until towards the end.. and what is the most scary thought for me is relating that to modern day cults. What did david koresh do again? Oh yes, that is right.. he became a preacher of a main streamlined denomination.. then turned his many followers against the government for many crazy reasons and brainwashing his followers to believe non-truths, but stuck to scripture amazingly. Then all of a sudden towards the end he was the new chosen messiah, etc... Sounds familiar... doesn't it? History does repeat itself.

Many of the hebrew words that were transliterated into latin, then greek, then latin then english are not accurate in todays society. Such as "Virgin" meaning in that time "A young unmarried woman" not a women who had never had sex. But christians will dispute this over and over. Mainly because of blind faith, not knowing all the facts... but really because they have believed something, been taught something and do not want to look dumb when truths come out- so they dispute and debate, when really there is no debate.

I love the idea of if the scientists actually have enough DNA to clone Jesus. Now, to me, if cloning is bad to god.. imagine the cloning of his only begotten son... I would say God would have something to say about that. And at that time, the whole world would know.. right?

The belief that there are no bones, because Jesus ascended into the heavens is much like the greek "myth" that predates Jesus time regarding dionysus. His heart was raised into the heavens. But, hey that is crazy talk.. just stories from authors who wrote about actual history and added some outlandish magical tales about men walking on water (Horus) and those three wise men annoucing a birth (Osiris) and that guy that was born from a virgin mother (Horus) for bedtime stories. Wait, that sounds familiar too.

There is no possible way to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that this is the tomb of Jesus. The only way that they could prove this is to find a direct descendant of Jesus and prove that they have the same DNA. There is no known direct descendent of the family of Christ. So that essentially shuts the entire idea of proving anything. Even if they are able to extract enough DNA from the remaining crypts to prove the family relationship of the people in the tomb, so what? And insofar as the statistical evidence presented in that broadcast, the statiscal methods used were not fully explained. And with statistics there is always a margn of error and a way to manipulate the numbers. Also notice that the scientists who tested the DNA mentioned that there was not enough DNA to do the necessary tests to determine whether the DNA matched. As a consequence they cloned it. That fact also opens up other questions about the methods employed when cloning. There has also been a lot of questions over the past few years, concerning the baisc procedures used by many labs. Many labs have been found to use sloppy procedures. So before we can presume that the lab employed the correct procedures we would have to know its credentials and track record. To prove that the results acheived were indeed accurate, another lab would have to replicate the origiinal findings. Futhermore, there is quite a body of literature from early Christianity. While all of it is not seen as orthodox, I do tend to think that if Christ had fathered a child, someone would have written about it. I'm an atheist and no fan of religion. But if you show me a piece of dog poo claiming that it's gold, I'll be sure to remind you that regardless of the label you attach to it, you still have nothing but dog poo. Needless to say, I think that the program was unadulterated poo. You are worrying unnecessarily in my opinon.

I don't find it scary...I would find it fascinating. How would the fact that Jesus was from and earthly father or even married or had a child make any difference as to your faith. He's not an alien or superhero, with magical talents. Infact he plainly stated we would do more than him. Is it wrong for a man to be married and love his wife and have children? Does that make him less godly? So they found bones...even if they are of Jesus, does that say that a person's soul rests in their flesh. Do we not read we are not of the flesh? I find so called Christians faith very weak indeed when a question is brought to bear on the authenticity of the Bible. Remember...it is written by man, and interpreted by man...in times where folklore and superstition were abound. And as for not including a lot of the other books in the Bible...the Bible we read was created by the Roman Catholic church...a still very powerful entity. Read some of the books...they clearly stear a man away from that sort of power in religion and more into a relationship with God. Not through atonement through a person elected to hold high position but in a relationship with our creator. Much of what I believe Jesus was preaching. Even if Jesus was not the Messiah, he preached the truth of what I think God wants from all of us.

If Jesus had been crucified, and that fact admitted to by the opposing side of the time, the Pharisees in particular, and his bones were laid in a known tomb, they would have reason to proclaim their evidence that Jesus did NOT ressurect, and did not preach after that, and did not Ascend after that, they would have NEVER let ANYONE forget that it was so. They would have told the disciples that they were wrong, and tell eveyone where the bones were, and thus debunk what the disciples were saying about Grace, Faith, and the Ressurection of Jesus Christ. They would have proof.

But we get nowhere, in all the first century, any claim of that kind.

So though we have ossuaries with names, we do not have the corelating evidence that were in the best interest of all remaining Jews in Israel, to proclaim the Christian message false with all that criteria.

I'm so confident in scripture, that I believe that this will all be a big joke. One thing about all of this that got me is that this burial site was where a lot of families were buried and also an area of the world where Jesus was a common name. I see things the other way around, if we don't hear anything about this, it means they didn't find any results pointing towards this being Christ's remains. I guess will just have to see. Scripture does say that in the end times there will be many people bearing false witness. I believe this will be the case here.

Filmmaker James Cameron is claiming he and some archeologists found the tomb of Jesus’s family. All the casket-like things called ossuaries are empty. I wonder what the archeologists were thinking when they found an ossuary with Jesus’s name on it. I can imagine the moment they removed the lid and looked in. If it were me, I’d wonder if I was going to see one of the following:

1. Nothing
2. Decomposed stuff
3. Jesus sitting up and saying, “What in Dad’s name took you so long?”

If you put an ordinary guy in an ossuary for 2,000 years, he’d clearly be dead. But if I were opening that ossuary I’d be wondering if maybe someone put Jesus in there after he died but before he arose. And maybe it’s hard to get out once you get in. I’d be worried that Jesus arose inside the stone box, and he’d be totally pissed that no one let him out until now.

I realize that this would not be the most rational worry in the world. But I like to base my worries on an expected value calculation. So for example, a 90% chance of getting a sliver would worry me about the same as a .000001% chance of a nuclear bomb going off in the backyard. In this ossuary example, I’d be looking at maybe a 2% chance of waking up an angry Jesus. I say that’s worth a worry.

If Jesus was in there, and sat up when I took the lid off, I’d first try to judge how angry he looked. If he had that money-changers-in-the-temple look, I’d go with a joke, like “Ha ha! Turn the other cheek!” Or maybe I’d try to explain to him that the extra suffering was extra good for humanity, and after all, that’s his job. Then I’d say, “Hey, I don’t like my job either, but you don’t see me complaining all the time.”

I know that some of you will say that if Jesus could move that big rock that was allegedly in front of his tomb in the traditional telling of his life, he’d have no trouble removing an ossuary lid. But he wasn’t supposed to be in an ossuary in the first place, so obviously if this ossuary is genuine, some of the details of the story were wrong. And if God let Jesus be crucified, it’s not a huge stretch of the imagination to think he’d let him stay in a stone box for 2,000 years. It makes sense to save your coolest miracle for when it’s needed most. And I think you’ll agree that this would be a good time for a messiah. And if you were God, you’d want James Cameron attached to this production. So it makes sense to me.

That’s why I’d be a crappy archeologist. I’d be afraid to open anything.

Your question is a perfect example of what this "documentary" was attempting to do: get people to take the bait and run with it.

If you put some homework into this supposed "find"....it's been around for over 25 years. These "boxes" have already been looked over, and discarded, as anything remotely connected to Jesus Christ.

The bible clearly states, through accounts of eyewitnesses, that the tomb Jesus was in was a "borrowed" tomb, supplied by a rich man who asked Pilate for the body. It was not a family tomb. It was also empty the day He rose, except for the linen which He had been wrapped in.

Jesus' family was not wealthy enough to have the size of the tomb that held all the boxes that were found....and there is no way to do "DNA" tests on anything to prove anything. It's all a hoax, and the filmmakers made it hoping to incite people to believe yet one more false, but sensational, piece of nonsense.

No,they cannot do that and prove that it is Jesus. For that, they would need a control sample of Jesus' DNA to compare, which is impossible. They were only able to get two samples from all the ossuaries.
There were NO scriptures kept out of the Bible. That's a popuar myth, but it's not true.
Countless non-Christian archaeologists have said that the tomb is not Jesus'.

Why should it do anything to Christianity? You should put more meaning in his words and what he said verses something that he did. There are major books missing in the Bible, that said, why did they remove the books and what did the books say? The church pick and chose books based on how they wanted people to act...not what Jesus said. In Revelations it point blank says anyone who removes or changes the meaning of the Bible will be going to hell. That said how can you really believe what the Bible says except mild historical facts like who is who and what their names are?

If they found that... I'm not sure if they would keep the information hidden or not. In a way maybe they would, to keep a portion of the world from having a total melt down, but then again it isn't the church that is looking into this. The people who are looking into it would naturally be genuinely interested and would likely wish to share their findings if it was anything exciting.
