I feel that any government entity should be able to enforce immigration law. City, county, state and federal. While many say immigration is a federal issue it's the local government that feels the effects, so they should have some say also.

Under USC 1324 Sec 8, local jurisdictions can enforce immigration law. The fed even has a program in place to train local cops in what to look for and how to enforce these laws. That program is known as 287g.

When local cops ad politicians claim that illegal aliens are a FEDERAL issue, I always retort back that so is counterfeiting, bank robbery, and kidnapping, why pick and choose what laws to enforce?

Hazleton, PA is a PRIME example of what can be done at the local level. Do a search on either Hazleton PA or Lou Barletta or more info on this.

No because we already have all these sanctuary cities popping up saying they refuse to enforce immigration laws. If the government leaves it completely up to the cities we will become a third world country a lot sooner.

Immigration issues do not just effect individual cities, it is something that has to be monitored by the government. i am not a believer of big government, and the less they are involved in things in our lives the better, but not for everything. people coming across any border and settling anywhere are effecting all Americans. i am not a believer that they are taking our jobs, i belive that they have a right to enter our country, especially people who are in danger should they stay in their home countries. We are a nation that is made of people from all over and should be open always to immigration. But, it is not an issue that cities can handle by themselves. Cities, other than the big ones like ny, Chicago, LA, etc don't even have big enough governments to handle more than parking tickets.

Sure we could do that ....leave the government out of it until money is needed , right?
Or every city can make its own rules then no one will have any idea what is the right one and then have the Supreme Court take years to straighten it all out.

Just like New Orleans.......disaster strikes and everyone can blame to the federal government because the mayor thought he could handle a crisis. Right up until it was too late to board those flooded buses.

I think localized governments should have the rights to enforce laws that are already in place. We have a county in the state where I live that decided to fine anyone who housed or employed illegal immigrants up to 10k.

I may not be psychic but I forsee property values rising in that county.

the problem with leaving it up to individual cities or even the states is that its not only where immigrants cross the border but they can cross in one state and move to another not making it fair to a state that has more strict regulations but still gets penalized with illegal immigrants because another state with more lax policies wasnt able to handle their borders

Government must regulate immigration since it is a crucial concern and affects national security.

That would lead to localized corruption. The government need to keep control. Maybe hand in hand with each City
