the whole religeon-war explanation is lacking ... most of the world is religeous in one way or another therefore if there is a war religeous people are involved ... religeon is not the cause of war not even the present iraq ordeal ... thats about globalization and the american empire ...

Atheism -- Various revolutionary wars through out the world over time. The American revolutionary war had nothing to do with religion, nor did the South American ones for the past century or so. The Communist wars, such as the Chinese red army, and the Russian revolution, had nothing to do with religion.
Religion -- World War 2 (Christians persecuting Jews), Vietnam (arguably Buddhists v. Catholics), the current wars of Iraq Afghanistan, the Crusades, almost all wars in Europe between 400 AD and 1900 AD.

In the 20th Century the only wars started by professed atheists were the Korean and Vietnam wars (both of which started by state communists or communist rebels).
In theory, at least, all religions are supposed to be against the concept of war, because it would violate rules against taking life. However, it rarely works out that way.
Nicole: Atheism is NOT a religion. It is the LACK of religion, hence the a- prefix. Look it up.

The British Opium Wars.
"The Opium Wars,or the Anglo-Chinese Wars were two wars fought in the mid-1800s that were the climax of a long dispute between China and Britain. In the second, France fought alongside Britain. This dispute centered around the growing amount of opium being imported into China from British India. The Qing Emperor (Dao Guang) had banned opium in China, citing its harmful effects on health and deleterious impact on societal productivity. The British Empire, while also banning opium consumption within her border, continued to export the substance to China. The Opium Wars and the unequal treaties signed afterwords led in part to the downfall of the Qing Empire, as many countries followed Britain and forced unequal terms of trade with China."-Wikipedia.org
Um...I'm sure there are others, WW1 was not started because of religion, although it caused many Americans to become pacifists and conscious-objectors.

I can't think of a single war that wasn't about religion in some way. As for religions that have nothing to do with war... Buddhism (they're pacifists), and Wicca (too new and doesn't fit the religion to war on others for the sake of religion).

Religion, and the way that people view the world that is intricately tied to their everyday lives. I'm thinking that no war has been completely devoid of religion.
However, simply because people pervert some religions, does not mean that the actual message is wrong.

WWI, WWII, the hundred years war, the invasion of the Huns, the invasion of the Britons followed by the Saxons, the invasion and raids of the Vikings, the VietNam war, Korea,...... The list of non religious wars is a great deal longer than the list of religious wars.

Careful when people tell you about the wars started by atheists. Saying that atheism was the cause is a faulty analogy because the atheistic dictators didn't kill BECAUSE of atheism, unlike many religious wars.
They happened to be atheist, but that doesn't mean they were dictators because of that. That's like saying they were dictators because they were men.
EDIT: And to Moirae: Read about the political activities of Buddhist monks in Sri Lanka. Not all Buddhists are pacifists.

--One way or another religion of the fradulent kind has been involved in every war that occurred. Either by directly being involved in political issues or by the sin of omission , meaning not directing people toward goodness.
--In the 17th & 18th chapt of Rev. A prostitute woman is called Babylon The Great--She represents the world empire of false religion"--she is described as fornicating, especially spiritually, & politically with the rthe rulers of world throughout history.
--Please note how the Scriptures makes it clear that this entity is responsible for all & every killings in any war.& more!
(Revelation 18:2) “2Â And he cried out with a strong voice, saying: “She has fallen! Babylon the Great has fallen, and she has become a dwelling place of demons and a lurking place of every unclean exhalation and a lurking place of every unclean and hated bird!”
...... “24Â Yes, in her was found the blood of prophets and of holy ones and of ALL THOSE(my caps) who have been slaughtered on the earth.””
