There are several possibilities.
1) MOST LIKELY it could be Costochondritis which is an inflamation of the rib joints in the chest where they connect to your breast bone. The onset is often insidious. Chest wall pain with a history of repeated minor trauma or unaccustomed activity (eg, painting, moving furniture) is common. Pain may be described as follows:
Exacerbated by trunk movement, deep inspiration, and/or exertion
Lessens with decreased movement, quiet breathing, or change of position
Sharp, nagging, aching, or pressurelike
Usually quite localized but may extend or radiate extensively
May be severe
May wax and wane
For this you can take an over the counter anti-inflammatory like Motrin and try to take it easy on your chest muscles for a while.
2) ANOTHER POSSIBILITY IS A sore chest muscle which may be caused by trauma or continual strain. The body responds to such pain with muscle guarding, an attempt to immobilize the painful site by tightening the muscles. Muscle guarding impairs circulation in the affected area. The decrease in blood supply leads to a decrease in metabolism with an accumulation of waste products. Your chest muscles may feel tighter or harder than usuall. Pretty much same treatment as above.
3) AND MOST UNLIKELY: Although chest pain or pressure is the most common symptom of a heart attack, heart attack victims may experience a diversity of symptoms that include:
Pain, fullness, and/or squeezing sensation of the chest
Jaw pain, toothache, headache
Shortness of breath
Nausea, vomiting, and/or general epigastric (upper middle abdomen) discomfort
Sweating
Heartburn and/or indigestion
Arm pain (more commonly the left arm, but may be either arm)
Upper back pain
General malaise (vague feeling of illness)
No symptoms (Approximately one quarter of all heart attacks are silent, without chest pain or new symptoms. Silent heart attacks are especially common among patients with diabetes mellitus)
Call your doctor, go to the ER or call 911 if you have any of these symptoms or if your pain gets unbarable or the pain does not subside.
Hope this helps you.

Muscles from our backs refer pain to our fronts
Much pain is from muscles below is an example of what may help (based on headaches).
Begin with a couple swigs of molasses or a couple of bananas daily - magnesium (which regulates many things in the body) and potassium (a needed building block for muscles).
Drink at least 1/2 gallons of water per day. Running a body low on water is like running a car low on oil is the analogy the head of neurology at UCDavis told my husband about 10 years ago.
Now to the cause - muscles - your back, neck shoulders and head have tender spots. They are knots in the fibers of the muscles called trigger points. It makes the muscles tight which makes them press on nerves and other things causing the pain.
The cure - start with a professional massage, you will also want to go back over any place you can get to 6-12 times per session up to 6 times per day rubbing (or lightly scratching on your head) every where that is tender until the knots go away. The place where the skull connects to the spine press up under the edge of the skull (to get to those muscles).
For more information read The Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Davies. It teaches what to do and where the pain comes from.

could be over exsertion, could be an anxiety attack, could be heartburn or it could be a midocardialinfarction (small heart attack) Go to the ER......... NOW. Let the doctor tell you what it is. Even if it turns out to be nothing, better safe than sorry.
