Outlook says my .pst file is damaged. Its probably time to upgrade anyway. How do I backup/ make sure I dont delete all my old data, and will the new version of Outlook automatically recognize the archived emails?

First scan the PST to try and repair it. Run the Scan PST from C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033

I heard you can use the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard in Accessories > System Tools (I have never tried this).

Worst case senario.... you install Outlook, reconfigure your email settings. Then open your pst file via File > Open > Outlook Data file.
