The Bible. Left-handed people, in the days of Abraham, could not clearly show if they were in possession of a dagger, because if you were to challenge someone to a sword fight, using the right hand meant you faught fairly. So left-handers could not be trusted. They could not shake hands with their right-hand, so their word of honour was not *respected*. Left-handed in Latin means "sinister".
In the Bible, Jesus was seated at the RIGHT HAND of the Father. Not the left. Religious superstition.

In older time, people who were left-handed were considered immensely evil. It was believed that Satan himself posessed them, and the churches (who ran ALL the schools) started teaching everyone to write using their right hand so as to "purify" them. Any association with left-handedness was wicked or evil, so banishing all left-handed people was (in their opinion) the only way of evangelising the whole world.
