the building of the tower was thwarted by God who mixed up there languages, thus babble. also babylon, so babel. however, in the dictionary is shows pronunciation as "babe-el" i've heard this preached on many times and have never heard it said like that. thought maybe hebrew/greek interpretation may have something to do with it. any insight would be helpful. thanks.

Words don't always have one "correct" pronunciation. The major British dictionaries give only the long "a" (BAY-bul), while U.S. dictionaries give both "BAY-bul" and "BAA-bul" (short "a") as acceptable, giving preference to the long "a" pronunciation.

It's wrong.
The proper Hebrew pronunciation is "ba-VEL," with a short "a" (as in English "Dad") and a short "e" (as in English "pet").
In English, the accepted pronunciation is "BA-bel" with short "a" and short "e"

Sorry, no insight, but I grew up in Germany, and there it is pronounced 'Baaah-ble' as in 'Baaah-bylon'??
