Different ways for individual dogs, the one sure sign is that her vulva is swollen (Her female parts) Upon examination you may notice blood or drops of blood around the House...you can do what they call "Teasing" we do it with our Horses and when I bred Huskies I used it, walk her by a caged stud dog and if she whines and turns to him... its usually a good sign but a simple inspection, just like a Human... they bleed

Her female part will be swollen 3 times the normal size. She will be menstuating. If there is a male dog in the area, she will put her butt right in his face. Heat lasts 3 weeks.
