I bought an old truck off of my work and I noticed it had a lot of power for a 6 cylinder ( 1993 Ford F150 )

Torque: 265 ft-lbs @ 2000 rpm

the "lot of power" you are noticing is due to the high torque figure. This is a by product of having a fairly large displacement and a long cranckshaft - the same reason that BMW vehicles for many years have had great power with relatively small displacements (2.3-3.5L). See also the Toyota Land Cruiser (old FJ), Supra, Lexus IS300.

My dad has a 1989 ford f250 with a 4.9 inline 6. It's a great truck. I even learned to drive in it. He tows extremely heavy trailers with it all the time, and has never had any problems with it. I believe the previous answer was correct on the hp and torque figures as the motor came stock. Just remember that a used engine doesn't quite perform the same as a brand new one.

in 1965 three new engines debuted: 240- and 300-c.i. inline sixes, with 150 and 170 horsepower, respectively.
For 1978, the 300-c.i. inline six (114 horsepower) became the standard base engine
