No, it's not dirty. Frequent shaving and using deodorants are some factors that make your armpits dark. It is much better if you will not put anything on your armpits. I would suggest that you bring a small wet towel with you when you go out and just wipe your underarm with that every time you go to the toilet. But if you perspire excessively and can't resist of using those deos, I would recommend to use alum. This white crystalline can prevent excessive perspiration and at the same time can help whiten your armpits. I would also recommend waxing instead of shaving your underarms.

If you want to know what an ALUM is, click the link below to see what is it look like and its uses.

If you wax instead of shaving or using veet then the grey colour will not be present. It is the shadow of the hair under your arms- even when you shave it only cuts the top of the hair off so that is why the grey/black shade is still present. When you wax the whole hair is removed from the follicle and will result in your underarm will be a natural skin colour.

**Don't forget to exfoliate and moisturise your underarms regularly- this will keep the skin soft and supple and a healthy skin colour

When you shave it cuts off the hair shaft at skin level. Generally shavers scratch at the skin at the same time causing pigment discolouration. This can change the colour of the skin where you shave. Also, if you have either thin skin in your armpits or you have lighter coloured skin than your hair ( eg, i have pale skin and very dark hair) then the hair folicle under your skin as it grows out ( esp if shaving only cuts it off at skin level then the rest is sitting just under the surface) then you can see the 'shadow' of the hair under the skin. And that changes the perceived colour of the skin on your armpit which gives it a greyish colour.

with some girls it depends with their skin colors. but then again, it's about your activities, and other stuff you use in your body.

First, yes it could be your deodorant. your deo may have chemicals that may be harmul to your skin, especially if you have sensitive skin. If you think that your armpits are darkening bcoz of the stuff, you better change your deo. you can try deos with whitening.

Then another thing which raised by one who posted here is shaving. Yes, it can damage and irritate your skin. Your armpits can also be irritated if you are always wearing body hugging shirts. Because of the friction in your sleeves with your underarms it gets irritated as well. So try to wear loose t-shirts especially if your activities require lots of movements.

The best advise I can give you is to go to a dermatoligist to properly address your concern.

It's the type of deoderant
When it dries it looks white, but in an armpit, it could easy look grey.
And it would wash off during swimming
The main ingrediants are usually Aluminum Chlor-hydrate or Aluminum Hydride, I think the Aluminum Hydride seems white when applied.
