God is telling Satan that Jesus will crush his head or overcome him by His death and that he, Satan, because of sin and evilness, will cause Jesus death, pain and suffering.

In KJV it is bruise in both verb uses.

It is part of the Adamic Covenant, the second Dispensation or gift to Man. After the Fall (which isn't inherited but we joined in the Fall ourselves) God created a way to redeem ourselves.

Bruising the head of the woman results in her putting the man as head of the household. This puts in order that wasn't needed before the fall because of an elevated consciousness. Will we transcend this order? I believe we will and we are. Are we approaching the second advent? It would seem so. But what form Christ takes is one that we must each understand. To me, it is Christ coming into every heart that will signal teh second advent.

The heel of the serpent is bruised so that those seeking to do God's will are protected from, not adversity but, those who curse them. Gen 12. 3

Eve was told that her "seed" would be the cause of Satan's defeat. For Eve said, "I have gotten a man from (or with the help of) Jehovah." She recognized this gift of Jehovah, though accompanied with the foretold "sorrow" of conception, as a first step toward fulfilling the promise of the Redeemer, "the seed of the woman" (Gen_3:15).

The Gospel? That is not the Gospel. The Gospels are in the New Testament.

It refers to the seed of the woman.
Jesus will crush the serpents head (killing the snake), but the serpent will strike at Jesus (a mere wound).

This verse represents the very first prophecy of a coming Savior.

All of Genesis 3:15 together discusses Adam and Eves descendant (Jesus) and the relationship with the Serpent (satan).

Hi, I study in the manuscripts, and I will try to explain the verse, but it really entails a whole lot of Biblical facts in that one line;
oh, you need to dump that translation -the NIV is in the top 3 worst translated Bibles. Get yourself a King James.
The actual verse reads:
(God talking to satan after the sin with Eve):
"And I will put emnity between thee (satan) and the woman (eve), and between THY SEED (Satans) and her seed (eve's); It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel"
Eve had sexual intercourse with satan; God multiplied her conception; by 2 ,exactly;
she was pregnant with twins; one pregancy of two separate fathers. Abel was Adams son;
Cain was satans son; Cain and abel fought bitterly until Cain killed him. That was the emnity between satans seed (his child) and Eve's seed with the rightful husband, Adam (Abel). To understand the rest of your verse question, you need to know this:
When Cain was thrown out of the garden, a mark was placed on him; the mark of his father, the devil. Ever hear of the mark of the beast? This is the beginning of it, right here on Cain. Cain had lots of decendants called "kenites", which translated means "sons of Cain". These kenites even made it thru the flood of Noah; you will find them alive and well and doing scribe-work for The tribe of Judah, in 1Chronicles 2:55. Satans decendants are still on the earth, today.
When Antichrist comes and sets up his one world government, you may recall there is to be a deadly wound - its a wound to the head of the beast system as described in Revelation.
Gods children will deliver that deadly head wound to Satans system by being delivered up to him, and by witnessing against him - saying that he is not the Christ, he's a fake.
The bruising of the heels that comes from the verse already happened when Christs hands and feet were nailed to the cross.

It's directed at the Serpent, and it's referencing man having to defend women from things, that's all.

I don't read the NIV, I read the KJV, but I think its referring to Satan aka the snake.

It's speaking about Satan and Jesus that there would be enmity between the two.
