Someone told my friend not to put in for that Air force base in Hampton,VA because it's called the back hole for a reason.

Is this really true?

i have definitly never heard that about Langley. I lived in Virginia Beach (right across the water) for 15 years and never heard that and am currently in the F-15 community (what is/used to be stationed there, the F-22 is starting to take over) and havent heard anyone talk about Langley like that.

You're speaking of Langley AFB. It is the home of the 1st Tactical Fighter Wing and the Headquarters of the Air Combat Command. No, it is not a black hole. Many people do not desire to work in a relatively high pressure job, such as a Headquarters, because it IS a high pressure job with great responsibilities. If you do well, you will be suitably rewarded...do poorly and you can kiss off much more advancement. The Pentagon is also a "black hole" for exactly those reasons. Nonetheless, such assignments present excellent opportunities to show what you've got. If you haven't got much to offer, it's best to stay away from them.

The base you are referring to is Langley Air Force Base home of the 1st Fighter Wing. Most people that work there are very proud of their assignment, NASA has a set up there. There is never a black hole assignment, it's what you make of your assignment while your there. I've heard individuals stationed in Honduras talk about how bad it is, yet they have never stepped foot outside the gate and taken advantage of the opportunities. We call those people barracks rats!

Langley can be a black hole if you choose to sit on your butt and not make an effort.

However, it can be the best stepping stone of your career if you push yourself.

Obviously you've been listening to a piss and moaner... lol

Yes it's true. Terrible duty. Even the Marines beg to go to Iraq when they are on the base.
