Ok so here's my problem...um I have a prepaid phone that my parents got me last year (for my 16th bday)..but since its prepaid the minute charge is expensive...so my money runs out pretty quickly. Since my parents get bothered if I talk on the phone too long, I talk to my friends using my phone at least once a week..for about a minimum of 30 minutes. And since my money runs out quicker than parents anticipate, I recharge with my own money every once in a while to fill in the gaps. But right now I'm broke and my phone is out of service but my parents don't know this, and I am too scared to ask them for money because they're going to ask questions and get mad if they find out I've been using my phone too much. But at the same time I need to put on money on there before either of them try to call me randomly one so they don't find out that way and get even more mad...I don't know what I should do...should I wait a couple more weeks before asking them or should I just ask them right now???

First off you might just want to go ahead and ask them for some money and maybe get you a better prepaid phone. There are ones out there that dont charge you an arm and a leg just to use it....but ask them for the money and take better inventory of how long you are on the phone.

My kids kept racking up extra cell phone charges and i would go ballistic! We're talking $300-$400 dollars! When they explained why the used their cell phones so much, texting, calling, whatever, I thought it over and faced the fact that we are living in a brave new highly technological world. I added extra chores to their list and decreased their shopping budget by $50/month each. I changed their plan and now i don't get any overcharges and they are perfectly happy with the arrangement. I know it will be hard, but try to explain to your parents why you use the cell phone so much and that it is necessary for your day to day activities. Do it now--the longer you wait, the harder it will be. Good luck.

I have the same exact problem and if you don't do this often you can just say your friends called more often than they usually do so you need money sooner this time and they might be a little bit annoyed but they probably won't take it any farther than that and at least give you a little bit of money to tide you over until you can get some more. That's what I do usually.

If your parents can still reach you on the phone without having any credit on the phone phone, then I would wait a little while. If they can't, ask if you can borrow the minimum amount for a pre-paid so that you have the phone for emergency use.

Well, I think you should get a job. A part time job some place you like, like Abercrombie or something like Starbucks. Then you will talk on the phone when you want, where you want.

Me....being an old fashioned type...I would try to earn the money to pay it myself. If parents find out...own up to it...tell them you will pay them back....and then DO Just That.
