~No. Most cops are ashamed to admit they even have a high school diploma and it is like pulling teeth to get a cop to admit having attended college, let alone having graduated. It's a macho thing of the thin blue line, and for the most part, the police prefer to be thought of as mindless brutes with guns and badges rather than as thoughtful intelligent human beings.

You don't have to have a degree to be a police officer, as long as you qualify and pass the civil service exams. The ones who do have a degree, knowing that they did not need them in the first place might not value it, who knows?! Im going into law enforcement, and have a degree in language and international trade, I need a degree to do this law enforcement job, so I will value the degree but not the specifics of my degree as it has nothing to do with my job. Because I have no military experience, I have to value my degree or else it would not have gotten me where I am today.

In most major cities a degree is necessary for promotion. In addition NYPD as well as major cities require 60 credits for entry. With an average retirement age of 45/50 most Retired Police would seek employment in the private sector. A degree would be necessary in order to compete. I would say "Yes" Police Officer value their degree.

Most cops I knew valued education as much as anyone else. Some wanted to pursue a career in public administration, while others went into a law practice. Sure they value a degree... as much as anyone else. Cops I knew were not a bunch of mindless gnomes nor were they a group of macho idiots. They were professional, but did have fun with the job.
One of the most intelligent individuals I have ever know was a partner of mine for several years.
Yeah... they value education... probably because stupidity should be against the law but it isn't.

I seriously doubt it. Most police officers have an authority complex, not all of them, but most based on not having a degree. Try reasoning intelligently to an officer and they always go to their authority. They should also keep in mind we as tax payers are their employers.
