You can get a GPA higher than 4.0 if you take either honors or AP classes. In a regular class if you get an A, then you get a 4.0, but in an honors or AP class, if you get an A, you can get a score higher than a 4.0. Therefore if you take multiple honors or AP classes then you can get a GPA higher than a 4.0 even if you take some regular classes.

It happens when students take Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Since these courses may count toward college credit, they are weighted slightly higher than other high school courses. I don't remember what the weighting factor is, exactly. But an A earns more than a 4.0. It earns a 4.3 (or something like that, I'm just going from memory). Thus when these grades from AP courses are factored into a student's GPA, it is indeed possible to obtain a GPA higher than 4.0 - by doing well in those more-heavily weighted AP classes, of course.

They show up for class - early and prepared. They listen to the lecture, take comprehensive notes, keep their minds on the subject at hand. They then review the material - books, notes, whatever, repeatedly. They take 'mini-tests' to be sure the subject is firmly in their mind. I had a really tough class and asked the teacher if I could record the lectures and listened to the recordings to and from school. I got a 96 in the course. It is possible to get over 4.0 because of Advanced Placement classes.

It all depends on your school's grading system. If they are on a 5 point system - you will be able to obtain 4.5 or so. if they are on a 4 point system - you can only get to 4.0.
Some school scales give you a 4.3 for an A+. You would need to study hard and be in a school system that has this extra point value.

There are two ways.
1) Some schools use a 5.0 scale
2) Some schools that use a 4.0 scale count Honors classes as 5.0

Classes can be weighted Differently.
The standard scale has a maximum of 4.0.
However, if you take more advanced classes (like honor and AP) you can exceed the 4.0 maximum.

They are focused and study study study..Nothing comes free or easy. They do not have a social life. Their one goal is to pass with as high A mark as possible. This will help them get the better jobs with the most pay. Another thing they do is only take as many classes as they know they can do well with. No sense in takeing 7 classes when you are only capable of doing 5 successfully...
