adjust the rear view mirrors and glance into these mirrors occasionally. Use the gas pedal more.
Most importantly, don't slam on the brakes.

try looking at the rear view mirrors more
if someone is tailgating u, tap 3 times on the brake lights to signal "back off"

you will get better answers if you ask this question in the general category instead of audio. but if you look in the rear view and occassionaly look back you will notice if someone is tailing you.
