are you serious?....
if you watch the cave or the descent and are trying to pick up caving or vertical techniques, you must be out of your mind!!!

guy above me is right... i'm a caver so i know how the sport really is... it's not like movies either...
most flares work under water, but don't last too long....

plus you really don't want to be in a small room or any kind of passage with the magnesium smell will be rancid.... ICK!.. also, you'll probably scar the rocks with the flare.. not very caver friendly....

my advice is to log onto caves.org and find a local grotto (that's a caving club) to get underground and into cave diving...... you'll learn how to persue the sport SAFELY and responsibly...

I hope your not getting in over your head. There is more to it then finding some flairs like the ones in the movie. It doesn't sound like you know what your doing. Sorry . Do all cavers a favor and do as Nikki says Get with a grotto They will teach you cave. Then start cave diving

Flares do not burn long enough for exploration regardless of what Hollywood might lead you to believe. They also foul the water with a cloudy residue that doesn't clear quickly at all, and are expensive and hard to deal with.
A better solution would be to get several xenon-lamp compact dive lights, and one main Large battery Xenon dive light. These high quality pressure-proof flashlights will burn brightly for several hours with good batteries, and produce brilliant white light of astounding intensity.
